Before I get started let me say I own a 0350 and my new acquired Christmas present the 0561. I love them both. I have not had any experience with the Kershaw cust service. I also have a 0550 and I also love that knife. I have no blade play in either my 0350 or 0561. My 0550 has audible back and forth blade play. Is this something I can fix myself? If not, should I call the customer service and run it by them?

Thank you!

Asa

Side to side or up and down (in the open/close direction)? If it is side to side, try tightening the pivot screw about 1/4 turn. If it becomes very difficult to open then back it off just a tiny bit until you get to the point where there is virtually no blade play but it is still possible to open. It is better to err on the side of being a bit difficult to open and with a good oil you should be able to get a smooth open without even the tiniest bit of play. If it is super difficult to tighten but still lose you may need to heat it up a bit to loosen the loctite. I also suggest purchasing some blue loctite and putting it on there so once you get it adjusted the pivot screw doesn't work itself loose leaving you with blade play again or constantly having to retighten.

I am having the blade play in the open/close direction. When I shake it, blade out, in the open/close direction I am getting an audible click.

Hmmm...so, if I understand this right, on a 0550 with the blade open, you can shake it and hear an audible click?
I wonder if your grip is pushing on the lockbar and catching/releasing? I just tried it on my 0550 and didn't hear anything. Of course, I almost cut my ear off shaking an open knife near my head.

I would check the pivot tension as OKN suggested.

HA! Well it is earless Wednesday! When I push the lockbar toward the scale side of the knife it goes away. Its just when it is naturally opened up I, lockbar engaged, I have the blade play. I can have it down by my side and shake it and hear it. If I had to hold it up to my ear to hear it, it would be a non-issue. Forumites, please do not cut your ear helping me. :D

hey man, mine has done that since day 1, and i have one of the first ones released. my 0551 does it too. there is a little vertical play against the lockbar, but its not enough to bother me. when I grip the knife it goes away.

again no biggie for me, but if it gets to you, send it back to Kershaw and they can fix it.

Yeah, I spoke with Kershaw today and they were very kind. I'm just curious if there was something I could do. Plus sending my 200$ knife off is always a lil' nerve wracking. Thanks everyone for their input.

Send it in get it taken care of.
Kershaw has great customer service, and their repair times are not unreasonable.

If you send it in use something like UPS that has actual tracking, delivery confirmation etc....
Don't send it USPS unless you pay for all the extras, which usually end up costing MORE than UPS.
