Kershaw Zing...

I picked up a Kershaw Zing one day while visiting my local Brick & Mortar. They only had the black handled model in stock (I would have chosen orange instead,) but I liked the knife and bought one anyway. I've always thought that the 3D machined grooves on the blade were pretty nifty-looking, but never really paid the Zing much attention before...

Well, I'm paying attention now. The Zing is a cool little knife, and I like it even more now that I've had a chance to play with it. I'd like to get some after-market micarta scales for it. Anyone know where I could get some?

I'd also like to see any photos you may have of your own pimped-out Zing!

Thanks!

The Zing is a great knife for a great price. I had considered getting some aftermarket scales for it, but, after living with the molded scales for a while I realized that they are really quite nice. I really dig the micro texturing and love the way it warms up in your hand.

+1
I thought of having Phillip do a set for me but the more I carried my zing, the more I warmed up to the texture and feel.

I don't have any issues with the stock scales; in fact, the texture gave me the micarta idea. I was just thinking a different colour would look pretty sporty...

Forum member potterma has done a good bit of custom scale work, mostly on Boker's that I've seen. Perhaps you could drop him a line.

Have fun with the Zing. One of the snappiest production flippers out there and a solid everyday cutter with the 14C28N steel.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will look into it...

The Zing is one hell of a knife for the price. I picked one up mainly out of interest, and recently gave it to a friend who needed a knife. It's been used heavily since then, and is holding up great. The 14c28 takes a great edge and holds up well, plus the flipper action is addictive. I did a little review on it here.

Coincidentally, I've read your review previously and enjoyed it. Good job, btw!

The Zing is indeed a fun little knife. I don't normally go for the weird-looking pocket clip, but I think it particularly suits the Zing; the holes sort of remind me of soda fizz. It would be cool to pick up a few more and deck them out in 'soda colour' scales: grape, lime, root beer, etc. I thought that micarta would be the way to go...

Anyway, if anyone knows someone who'd be interested in a scale project, please send 'em my way! :)

Cheers!

+1 on custom mods..my Zing usually sit in the case but comes out once and awhile when dressed up for something important..

The Zing was my first entry into the Kershaw world and I haven't looked back! :D I love how the Zing looks and how it feels in my hand. I've read where a lot of people think the scales are "cheap" feeling, but I just don't see it. Anyways, Congrats on your purchase!!:thumbup:

Even RJ Martin carries a Kershaw Zing. That's pretty impressive to me. Here's the man that designed the knife. He could make himself the most badass Zing of all time yet he carries the Kershaw. Awesome.

I love mine. The only mod I did was to sand the scales down a little to make it a bit smoother pulling from and putting back into the pocket.

It seems there is a lot of love for the Zing! Great pocket knife, so I shouldn't be too surprised.

Would you guys buy more if Kershaw made the Zing in different colours? Cherry red, grape purple, lime green, lemon yellow, root beer brown... I'd collect 'em for the colours, fer sher!:cool::thumbup:

What do you think, Thomas W? Any chance we'll see the Zing come out in other colours? It worked for Spyderco's Delica/Endura line... :D

I love my Zing its the Kershaw i use the most! Heck its the pocketknife i use the most!
I'm tempted to pick one up in orange!
A Stayglow (ala Victorinox) version would be awesome!
:)

Here are a couple of Zings:

Thomas, is that Damascus Zing still available/in production? I don't recall ever seeing that one (or the camo) before, only the orange handled version. Me likey :)

I thought that were Damascus Zings released? I could've swore I saw a Damascus Tanto Zing for sale somewhere. Of course I could be wrong.

The Damascus Zings are available on the sites that I usually order from. GPK has them is stock.
