Ok, got a question regarding my Zings. For some dang reason I cannot get this knife sharp. I have been working on it for the last week trying to get just a simple shaving sharp edge on it to no avail.

Now I'll be honest and say that I don't have the skills to get my knives super (hair poppin') sharp, but I can at least get them sharp enough for most everyday use, except this one.

I've taken the knife through the different grits making sure I'm getting a burr each time. When I get down to my extra fine stone, and then strop it, damn thing still won't shave arm hair, or even slice through a sheet of paper without tearing it. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong, since I have no problems with any of my other knives.

Soo, has anyone else had sharpening issues with the Zing before?

~or~

Can I get some sharpening advice or tips?

Thanks y'all!

*I know this thread pertains to sharpening, but I'm more curious as to whether it's the knife itself that's giving me the headache :D

i use the spyderco sharpmaker on mine and its hair popping sharp.

i have it set to the 40 degree angle and do about 7-10 strokes per side then strop it

dont know what the problem with yours is, maybe a toothy edge or a burr

hope this helps:)

The Zings have a very excellent slicing profile. Up your angle (you can check it by putting sharpie on the edge where you're hitting).

I had to do that with my sharpmaker by slightly increasing the angle when swiping it on the rods. I can nearly whittle hair with my damascus zing.

Try finishing up with a micro bevel. Like if your main bevel is at 15 degrees make the micro bevel 25 degrees.

I appreciate the advice y'all!

So here's the thing, if I can't figure it out and get an edge on the dang thing, it's going out the window
