Kershaw/ZT assists with detents

I am wanting to get a new folder when I get the cash, and everything I can afford from Kershaw/ZT is assisted aside from the JYD (which I dislike) and the 0550 (which I have). No KVT knives in my price range. So that leaves me with assisted, but I am not so much a fan of assisted so I want one with a detent.

I have heard that the 0350 has a detent (I had an early version without it), and the 0566 is confirmed to have one. Any other models around or under the $150 mark have detents?

For manual flippers there's also Kershaw RAM, Skyline and Zing plus ZT 0200 & 0700.

For assisted opening with detents in addition to 0350 and 0566 you also apparently have the 0770.

I didn't find the RAM to be as nice as everybody says it is. It isn't bad, but with the rarity of them now it isn't really worth the trouble. I did forget about the Zing, but HATE the Skyline. The 0770 is also... just a little outside of my budget, unless they made a super budget model.

I've heard that the Blur is easily transitioned to manual. I think it shouldn't be too bad finding a ZT/Kershaw in several flavors which are able to be used as a manual. You might want to decide on what sort of knife first - how big, blade steel, handle, lock, opening mechanism etc.

And in the realm of discontinued RJ Martin manuals, the Groove is a larger option.

As another related comment, I haven't found any of the China-made Kershaws that were assisted to be turned into manuals. I did open up a Zing SS but it's detent wasn't very good, though there was sort of one there.

If you don't mind a large knife, I'd consider the 0200. It's big, beefy and a total joy to flip. I've got a LOT of knives, and I think that the ZT 0200 is the most satisfying flipper that I have. And you can get one new for about $120 or used here on the forums for around $100.

As much as I love KAI, you should look at the Dendra line of knives. Very solid, thick D2 blades and they are flippers.

Have you looked at the ZT 801? Flipper unassisted kvt bearings and if you look around it fits into your price range

I've got the Tiger Jump, It is a tank. With some hi slip grease on the washers it is almost as smooth as my JYD. Almost.

Personally, ZT 0801 has the best flipper action of any ZT including the 0777 series.

I also have the Dendra Tiger Jump and as big of a beast that it is the flipper action is fairly good. ZT 0600 which is also pretty big has a better action for me.

I haven't seen an 801 for under like $170. A bit high for me.

Does the new Chinese SS Zing have a detent? I have two U.S made Zings and was considering getting the Chinese version. Hopefully the new one has a detent as well.

I love my ZT 0801 and highly recommend it. Sorry to go off topic but how hard is it to de-assist something like the ZT 0300 or 0350?

Complete cake if you have rudimentary knowledge of knife assembly and disassembly. Take the screws out, take the non locking scale off, take the torsion bar out, and put it back together. The whole thing should be done in well under 5 minutes.

I would contact kershawguy and see if he has any blem 0801s that might be in your price range.
