I've always been a fan of Kershaw's folders but I've not heard or experienced opinions regarding their Damascus blades, especially regarding edge retention. Would anyone care to share? Thanks

They use Alabama Damascus. I've used my Damascus Skyline a fair amount. Edge retention feels at least on par with 14C28N. (I haven't done any controlled testing, so this is just based off observation from my regular use.) It's easy to sharpen and touch up, and it is pretty tough (there's a pic of a Damascus Leek that had its blade twisted into a corkscrew shape without breaking).

It isn't a stainless Damascus steel, so if you are in a rust-prone environment, do keep that in mind.

The etching will lighten as you use the blade (faster if you cut more abrasive things). You can darken it by giving the blade a quick vinegar bath. It doesn't affect function, but if you like seeing the higher contrast lines, that's also something to keep in mind.

I EDC'ed a Damascus Skyline for awhile till another model caught my eye. Pretty, good edge retention, no complaints.

I still have it but it mostly just sits in a display case with all my other Skylines.

How fine does it get? I'm interested in buying a damascus shallot and am glad this popped up
