Kershaw's torsion bars

Does kershaw design torsion bars to open different knives at different speeds, or is it due to the size of the blade? I have a Boa that opens very smooth and slow and a Clash that opens faster and louder than any of my other knives. I bought the Boa used, so not sure if that was normal for that model.

Not all the torsion bars are exactly the same so there can be some differences in opening speed even with the same model knives. If you have a Kershaw A/O that isn't opening fast enough, I would first recommend a good cleaning. If the torsion bar is indeed the culprit, call Kershaw CS and they will send you a new one. If you need any help taking the knife apart and replacing the torsion bar, just ask and someone will get you pointed in the right direction.

well, before anything, I'd check out the tightness of the pivot. If it's over tightened it will definitely slow it down or often it'll just stop it before it gets to TDC. Also it takes 30 seconds.

But there is a LOT of variety in AO knives. I don't know if it's due to springs, blade weight, the diameter of the washers or the resistance in the lock...but I've had 15 or so and I definitely notice big differences.

Thanks, it opens completely every time, just a different feel than my other Kershaw's. I'll open it up and clean it to see if that makes any difference(and to just take it apart)

The boas were a slower, gentler opening than any other model that I recall, quite normal for that one.
