Took my little Kesar Lal out into the chilly woods in the wilds of Corn Patch today. There was a small tree blocking my view of the corn field East of Beryl's house that needed his attention. Truth be said, it was also blocking my Sharps rifle's view of the iron pigs out about 150 yards. T'were a bit rough getting to the varmint, but I managed somehow. Just had to stop and think to myself: What would Bawanna do in a situation like this? Well, it's 5 o'clock somewheres, so I waded into the mess.

Ol' Kesar lal bein' the fine upstanding khukuri he is, jumped at the chance to help an old fat boy out and commenced worrying that elm tree.

[/IMG] It musta been something the tree said because Kesar allova sudden opened up a can of WhoopAzz on that tree and within two minutes, it give out a groan, shook a mite, and then fell clean over dead!

[/IMG] Thought it best if the body was disposed of right quick like and while I was doin' that, I heard this awful waverin' sound comin' from somewheres behind me. I turned around and saw Kesar had jumped up on the stump and was givin' out what I thought was a Johnny Weissmuller "Tarzan the Ape Man" yell!

Nice work bookie :) spose that tree ain't giving you anymore grief. Give Mr. Lal a nice oil rub down for that fine bit of manscaping, he deserves it haha

Great thread! I love seeing Khukri's (And knives/Tools in general) being used. Keep up the good work!

More people should post threads like this. ;)

Hehe, I Don't think that nemisis will be back to bother anyone again ;)

That is one heck of a tangled patch Bookie, If you could get that going all along your propertyline... well that would beat all out of a fence for keeping overly curious folks away.

Oh, no, Shav! Cain't do that. The Sunny Day Nudist Colony is next door and I'm the one who takes all the group graduation photos at end of camp. They even invite me to stay for lunch! A man hasta do what a man hasta do, you know.

What are iron pigs? In the army in Germany Iron Pigs ( Eisenschweine) was a nickname for tanks or tank crew members.
I doubt that was what you were hunting with your sharps rifle :-D

I suspect they are silhouette targets. Usually chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams?

Usually in groups of 5 at progressively longer distances with rams being the furthest.

Course I don't know how they do things in Corn Patch, maybe the doing some reinacting.

Iron pigs would be silhouette targets set at different ranges for target shooting/competition.

Jens, they are steel targets used in long range shooting events. Here is a photo from the internet of a pig. My pigs are about 7 inches tall as they are scaled down from the full sized targets. This allows us to shoot closer distances and the pigs staying the same relative size. I can hit the 4 inch targets usually 4 out of 5 times, off hand at 200 meters with open sights & black powder. If you have seen the movie Quigley Down Under, you will have seen what my rifle looks like as it is a sister to the one in the movie.

Haven't seen the movie, so I looked up a clip:

Got my antelope at 735 yards as measured by the State of Montana, in front of 8 witnesses for a called off hand shot, 30 mph cross wind. They laughed when I pulled the trigger, too. The antelope took 3 steps and keeled over. Shot through the heart. They still remember that shot in Broadus and the Shiloh factory....No brag. Just fact.

Damn that's a fine rifle and I dig the hat. My son just got a Pedersoli in 45/70. Not quite as nice but should be fun.

Ah. Real iron pigs. That's cool.
:-)

I liked the movie Quigley. The sights really stood out so that I would have associated your rifle with the movie just by your picture alone.
Was thinking of the movie during my military service when I saw smoke coming out of a 20mm cannon before I heard the sound much later. Lol.
Once you hear where the shot came from you are already dead. :-p

Jens, after I shot the antelope and the Sharps factory gave me long range sights, they told Mike Venturino, the gun magazine writer, about the shot. Then Quigley himself sent me 3 photos from the movie, a movie poater, and a copy of the film. One photo of him says: Steve, Shiloh says one hell of a shot. MQ, Tom It's framed and hanging in my shop. There were actually 3 Sharps in that movie. One for the stunts was solid aluminum.

Bawanna, I'm not scowling in the photo. That's Red Man in my left cheek......

I think of Teddy Roosevelt and the rough riders looking at that photo.

Bully!

Bully indeed!
Now that those Boo-mberg financial backed gun grabbers have a foothold on our State laws, I doubt I will every get a Sharps. But I sure do love the look of Bookie's. And the fact he is a Sharps' sharpshooter with it just makes it so much better.
