Hello group,

What is the name of the knife that fits on a key chain, but it is in the shape of a cylinder ? I believe you have to unscrew one end of it to use it.

In addition, if I want a 'small' key chain flashlight, what is a good one ? It has to be quite small, but give off a decent light.

Thank u,

JB :)

Edited to fix link......
For the keychain flashlight I would highly recommend the Arc AAA. $20 at

http://www1.ecxmall.com/stores/texastacticalsupply/Search.bok?category=Led+Lights

It is a bit larger than the Photon Microlight series but it is regulated (has the same light output all of the time). The Photon is NOT regulated so after a couple of minutes it will begin to get dimmer and dimmer.
The ARC uses a white LED and so it has no filament to break. It runs on easily-available (and cheap) AAA batteries. It is built from solid Aluminum but is much better than the Mag Solitaire. I carry one all of the time.
You can check them out at ARCFLASHLIGHT.com

JB,
I'm sorry I can't help with the knife question but I would highly recommend the Photon Micro-Light. My personal preference is the Micro-Light II model.

You can read up on the differences between colors and choose the one that most suits your needs and/or preferences. I've bought about 5(some gifts/some for us) different Photon Micro-Lights and they are quite nice for keychain use.

I always have 2 Photon II microlights on my keychain--one yellow and one red. They're tiny and rugged and always there in a pinch. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the knife you inquired about.

I have no idea what knife you are talking about, but I will recomend the Victorinox Classic. It's not heavy duty but comes in very handy.
For a light, the Arc AAA is outstanding. Mine took a trip through the washing machine with no ill effects.

You might be thinking of a small Opinel? Just a thought. I think that you'd be served well by either the small Maglite Solitaire, or with the Photon (which has a solid-state diode instead of a filament light). Hope I haven't confused the issue too much!

Sincerely,
Anthony

SEARS had purple solitaires for $3.97, I guess nobody wanted purple flashlights.:p

Here is a good one for ya!
A CCKnifeLite® - White LED Keychain Light!
It's a keychain knife, screwdriver, and LED light!

For your keychain, it would be hard to beat a Photon II and a SOG CrossCut (OR a Leatherman MIcra).

Personally, I carry a SOG Crosscut and Arc AAA on my keys. They are so much better than the Photon II and Leatherman Micra I had before!

I've seen that knife around before--but the one I saw was one of those swap meet cheapies that I wouldn't be interested in. Don't know if that's the same one you're thinking about.

I carry a Photon II (Photon III's suck) on my keys mostly because of the size. I would like to have the ARC AAA, but I just have too much crap on my keys right now since in the past month I've added a Glowring, a Spy Capsule and just the other day a Leatherman Squirt S4 which is turning out to be a really great buy.

I believe it would be a kubotan. Not all of them have it, though.

Thats what I was thinking. I've seen Kubtan that held several differant items. I've seen them with throwing spikes inside and one that sprayed pepper spray and of course the one you mentioned with a knife. They were originally designed as a solid peice for attacking the pressure points. I've seen most of these designs at martial art stores.

Just do a search with www.google.com and type Kubotan Knife in the field. You can find several places that sell them.

Mike

Edited to add: I've seen several cheap kung fu or knife stores that sell these. They are very poor quality, and might even be illegal where you live. Be sure to check your laws before carrying one.

For a keychain knife recommendation I would offer Cold Steel's Tuff-Lite.

I've had a clip point on my keyring for several years now and it shows hardly any wear. Very nice little knife. Plus, CS is still making them in AUS-8.

I live in Canada. I was speaking to my local knife dealer and he informs me a Kuboton is an illegal weapon in Canada. This is because it is disguised as a knife. In other words, looking at it you can not tell it is a knife. Actually, that is why I wanted one, so I would not scare people if they saw my key chain :)

Looks like an Arc AAA or small Mag for the light.

I am going to look at my local Canadian tire for the micro-leatherman. I notice one person said they like the SOG over the Leatherman, which surprised me as I thought Leatherman was the best.

I was considering a knife, but if the micro-tools are small they would be better, but over-kill for my needs.

I know several small folders were mentioned. Is there one small folder that stands out as first among equals ?

Perhaps, there is a US$ 500 micro-sebenza available :) Just kidding !

Regards,

JB :)

among small folders, the Spyderco Mouse looks about as stout a knife as you'd ever need, can be had for $40 brand new. It may be a little bulky for a keychain, but not bad.

I believe your "keychain knife" is
a now defunct Zelco ; they're currently to be had ( while diwindling supplies last ) from :

www.eknifeworks.com

For a light, the Photon II is a good
choice with different colored beams to boot (pun intended;)). They can be had for $12.50 plus shipping from:

www.cutleryshoppe.com

Just FYI ( acronymisms!:()

AET ;)

WorkForALiving,
Is that web addy for the Arclights www.tts.com? I get some sort of web-service company. Can anyone order form here?
Do I need to sign up?

Can anyone suggest cheap places to purchase Arc AAAs?

I completely agree with Pwork The victorinox Classic is an excellent keychain knife. The Rambler is also a great choice.
The Arc AAA, IMHo, is the best keychain light on the market.
