Hi friends,

I am looking for some education and information on key-chain lights. Do you know one that last for a very long time? brightness is important but its secondary after longevity.

Thanks

Streamlite Keymate about 12$
Lasts a Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnng time
You can see a review at flashlightreviews.com

96 hours I think their website says
Anyway, I have had one on my keychain for 3 yrs now
- it has held up well
- and the light produced is very useable (for it's size)
- use it for about 10-20 seconds several times a week when I get home from work and it is dark in the basement (just to get up stairs) yeah, I could just turn on a freakin light, but this is more fun.

The photon microlight I in red lasts a very long time too. I think its 72 hours but I'm not too sure.

The Photon Freedom has variable brightness. If you're willing to trade brightness for really really long runtime, this is your light. This is the reason I carry the Freedom.

Cheers,

I really don't get all that info in sites about lumes and brightness. its hard to compare and some might be misleading.

for a key-chain light i really want the best.

Your input appreciated.

Arc-P! The Arc-P is the best keychain light out there, as far as I am concerned.

photon microlight is good. enough illumination lasts forever. I have the one with green illumination.

The red (and many other colors) photon II has over 100 hour battery life and ample light for small important tasks. I've used mine frequently for well over 10 years without a battery change.

A Jil DD or Jil JR2 LR (same light, different revisions) will last 20 hours on a CR2 battery. The CR2 Ion has an advertised 140 hours on low. If you want something really small, there's the FireFli which uses tiny zinc air hearing aid batteries. 50 hour runtime.

guys which do you think is better?

The Arc-AAA http://www.arcflashlight.com/arc-aaa.shtml
or
Photon Proton http://www.photonlight.com/Proton-AA-Handheld-LED-Flashlights-Headlamps-p/pr-aa-led-flashlight.htm

I am not talking value but rather performance.

Are there even better ones?

The Photon Proton is not a keychain light. The Arc-AAA is a keychain light. The Proton (being a AA light) is a bit big for a keychain for most people. Before I settled on the Arc-AAA, I'd take a look at Fenix's various keychain lights. Fenix = very very good value and performance.

I think the build quality of the Arc-P is much better than the Fenix LOP. Don't get me wrong, I love my Fenix lights. BUT, my LOP-SE did NOT replace my Arc-P on my keychain.

The USA-made Arc AAA and AAA-P have been around for a long time and are reliable. I carry an AAA-P on a ball neckchain.

The Proton you cited is a relative newcomer. Suggest very strongly that you search through the threads on CandlePowerForums.com about reliability issues with the Proton before you order one.

For absolute long run time in a keychain size light, it is the green LED Photon II- 14 days continuous! I have one in every one of my "survival tins". The largest I will go for a keychain size is my original ARC AAA. I' m not sure what its run time is per manufacturer. But it is much longer with a rechargeable NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery rated at 900 mAh (milliAmps).

I won the photon proton on another forum and I like it a lot, but it is not for the key chain.

For a long time I wanted the Arc AAA because it seemed to be the best key chain light that everyone raved about, but luckily I waited long enough for the Fenix E0 to come out.

I love it, 11 plus hours of even, regulated light so that I don't have to wonder if it is time to replace the AAA battery, and then I have the 8 hours plus of moonlight light to cover me until I do replace it.

It is small, well made, and it doesn't turn on in my pocket, which was a big issue for me.

It is twice as bright as my original AA CMG Infinity, and it is as bright as the newer version of the Gerber AA Infinity.

You get the same level of brightness for the first 11 hours because it is regulated, after that it acts like a regular flashlight slowly giving less light during the next 8 hours.

The bottom is flat and has a couple of small notches so that the key ring, doesn't interfere with it standing on a flat surface, a little like a candle.

It is only $20.00 shipped from the Fenix store.

I use a Keymate with SMJLED upgrade and generally change batteries once a year.

Then again I have and use 20 other flashlights too so your mileage may vary:D An upgraded Dorcy AAA will last but at very diminished levels after the first 8 hours. Litihium batteries will double the runtime. Another fav of mine is the FireFli ZA4, it hangs around my neck 24/7 and just keeps shining. I change bats in that every 6 months or so just to stay 'fresh'. Fenix LOP or equivilant is great and I hear that ARCAAA is a winner too.

The Fenix E0 offers better light for longer, is at least as well made (better IMO) than the Arc, and more reasonably priced. It is a great light, but I recently replaced it with the king of keychain lights, the Fenix L0D "CE" . It offers phenomenal light output with selectable brightness levels, and very good runtime to output ratio.
