Anyone know of a keyring system that wont break no matter what? im tired of these fake carabiner key chains, and as mine gets heavier, i want something better to keep my keys by my side. Any suggestions? or should i upgrade to a true climbing carabiner, one with the sleeve that threads up to keep them locked.

My OKAY´S KEY SAFE hasn´t failed me, check this thread:

I have a couple of non-climbing biners form Black Diamond that are good for keys, wire gate, non locking, not too small but smaller than climbing ones, feel strong enough and well made, one is plastic and the other aluminum.

You may also consider a small shackle from a marine shop, strong and come in several sizes and shapes, I have one and the only problem is that it´s steel so it´s a bit heavy.

MDBlades,

What are you attaching your keys to that your "fake" carabiner isn't stronger than? Like Don Luis said, Black Diamond makes a nice wiregate "fake" that should be plenty strong enough to hold your keys. A locking biner is probably overkill and really isn't that convenient to use if you're going to be attaching and detaching your keys alot. Plus, full size biners are fairly big for just carrying around. If you really want to carry around full size biners, you might consider a quickdraw (2 biners connected by a short length of webbing). One side for your keys and one side to attach to whatever.

Well, with a led flashlight, and a leatherman Juice (Which i found! YEY!) Attached to it, along with some keys, it's gonna get heavy. About them breaking, i mean the gates on them sometimes break, the little thing that closes it usually goes out.

and if the beltloop gives way, you are toast anyway. Besides, I never could syand a biner that had both the keyring and what it itself was dangling from in the same gate. Too easy to loose some or all of it trying to get it on or off. I would want a biner with 2 gates, one for holding things, one for holding on.

Okay's Keysafe. On the belt, not the pants. Dangle them in the pocket if you have to, but they are on my belt to get them out of my pocket in the first place. Makes more room for the knife, space pen, change, toy du jour, etc.

I carry alot of keys and I have never had a problem with a Black Diamond aluminum wire gate. I had the plastic jive wire and it broke after about 4 months. But the newer aluminum version has lasted me already 3 months and hasn't started to wear even with my constant clicking of it.
