There have been many disscusions on carry methodes here for those extra useful items that we need to keep near. Does anyone hear besides me keep some basic gear on there keychains? What do you carry?

I don't have everything I want just yet, but I have plans for adding the following:

voice recorder
time piece
small light
small pen

Hi'

You can put on your keychains:
- light (Arc AAA, mini Maglite, SPy Capsule, MicroLeds...)
- fire (swedish fire steel or mini)
- multi-tools (SAK, miniSAK, Leatherman micra...)
- Mini stones
- all little knives
- compass
- whistle
- paracord

I you want all these items, you must have a big keychains :D

Personnaly, if I must have only this (no BOB), I will choose light, whistle, SAK or multi-tool and fire. It's not too big and you can carry it in a pocket.

Is it for urban environment ?

Since I'm a pipe smoker I always have a means of fire on me, like a bic in the pocket and a pack of matches in plastic wrap in the pouch in my eagle creek wallet. Ditto a sak.

For my ker chain I always want a light source available. I keep both a photon2 and a maglight solitare. My key ring is always in my left front pocket so a light is never far away or a second or two.

I also keep a Vic classic and a Gerber micro LST there too.

I keep a small Vic Classic, Boy Scout "Hot Spark", P-38 can opener, Photon mini LED light, and a lucky coin on my key chain.

Great thread idea.

I carry a Simonich Bitterroot, photon light, Swisstech Utilikey, mini magnifying lens, safety pins (2), and 3' of 550 cord tied in a coile knot all tied together with the 550. Never without it.

With the strength of Bitterroot, in a pinch I can make a bow drill set for fire using the 550 as cordage. Can also carve traps and use the inside of the 550 for a snare or paiute trap.

Key ring only has a P38 and Utilikey on it. Mission Wallet has ARC AAA, Vic Classic, Ti card, freznel lens, Space Pen, and small FAK.

I hate bulky keyrings. Used to carry 30-40 keys when I was young, and now prefer no more than 4.

I've pared my keychain down to the following:

My house, truck and a handcuff key
The remote to my truck
An Inova Microlight in green
A Swisstech Utilikey
A Boy Scout Hot Spark

I carry everything else in my pockets :)

The photo shows my carry when hiking, etc. The keychain is in my pocket on a daily basis.

I carry an UltraStinger on my keychain. Come to think of it, maybe thats why I limp.

Myakka, where did you get the "Boy scout hot spark" , it looks like Longbow has one too.
Thank you
Martin

Our local scouts office has a retail gear shop so I picked up 4 of them for a couple or three bucks a piece. You can get them at the online scouts site as well.

Carried on a FLX-O-LOC cable keyring that hangs into my jeans pocket from leather belt loop fastened around my belt:

1. CMG Infinity Ultra
2. GRIP by Diplomat (mechanical pen built like a freaking tank)
3. REI aluminum tube whistle
4. SwissTech ScrewZALL
5. Uncle Bill's Sliver Gripper
6. Victorinox Midnite MiniChamp II

I had my Arc AAA on there along with a Mini Fox 40 whistle, but the Arc's knurling will abrade other items that rub against it, and the Fox's shape is simply not conducive to living quietly in one's jeans pocket. No for me, anyway.

My "regular" keyring contains, in addition to keys, nailclippers, a P.E.C.K. in the Dark with black Teflon plating, a RES-Q-ME, and a Princeton Tec Eclipse. I recently put my car keys onto a separate keyclip that easily separates from the main bulk of the keys. Don't want to ruin ANOTHER ignition.

On a regular ol' split ring:

- Keys for 3 vehicles, plus house.
- Victorinox Midnite MiniChamp II
- Princeton Tec Eclipse LED light
- SwissTech MicroTech tool

I'd like to add a Kershaw firestarter in the near future, but I have 2 lighters on me at all times so I'm not too worried for now.

I've got keys, P38, LM Micra, Inova LED, and the MagSolitare. Nothing else needs to be with my keys, it can be in other pockets or whatever. I stay away from things of value, because honestly now, how many times do you lose your keys during your lifetime?? My buddy just lost his yesterday!

Keys and car alarm,
Batonlite,
Victorinox Classic,
Silva compass with carbine,
Victorinox Classic is waiting to be replaced for a larger Victorinox knife for more than half year. I will prefer slightly larger knife if I have to have only one knife again. The rest is fine. Wistle and other equipment are added to the chain only when I go somewhere isolated.

Martin,
Like Longbow siad, you can pick them up at any BoyScout store, mine sells them for $2.00

Since my keychain is just part of the edc system, I try to keep the stuff on it to a minimum.
