I love SAKs, but hate the freaking key ring. Its so useless for me, but when I take it off its seems like theres something "missing". Anyone else have this problem?

The key ring tab on the alox models sticks up higher than the plastic ones to clear the reamer. It drives me crazy so I clip it off than use a little file to make it smooth. I think it looks better without them on the alox as well, like the Soldier. I don't have a problem with the ring on the standard models because it doesn't stick up so much.

The Soldier doesn't have one but the Pioneer, Farmer and others do. I just cut them off cause they bother my hand.

I would think that the ring would give you some sort of tactile orientation reference. I often pull out the Soldier, and have to flip it around because it's backwards. With the keyring, you would know which way it faced as you grasped it, without having to look at it. Fobs work that way too.

I took the keyring off.

I'm 3/4 tempted to grind off the tab, but I think sometime in the future I may wish to put a lanyard on the knife.

So it stays. For now.
