Hi All,

I am looking for a new keyring. I was think something in demascus / titanium / box elder / mammoth.... Something cool and different. I have a few William Henry products, but they don't seem to make key rings. I travel a bit, so it would have to be TSA friendly (carry on). Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Are you looking for a new key ring, which is the ring thing that goes through the hole on the key, or a key fob, which is a decorative element that also attaches to the actual ring?

If it is a new ring you are looking for, something made of copper would be a different take. For the most part, key rings are key rings are key rings.

Key fobs are another story. Since this is Gadgets & Gear, I want to be the first to suggest paracord.

yeah, a short ripcord sinnet is good lookin. Monkey's fists are good for self defense (maybe not TSA friendly)

I like the Bison Circle key holder. It has a gate that lets you add and subtract items in a hurry. If you use two of them, you can store the stuff you are not going use today on one and the stuff you are going to use on the other. The split rings are quite large, but you can get smaller ones at the bait shop.

For something completely unique, I would recommend going to a knifemaker. Have something made out of Ti or Damascus with some sort of inlay, that would be excellent.

Any ideas on who to go to? I am thinking something like a nice Demascus fob with box elder inlay. I would want it on the smaller side. Maybe put a cool / manly gemstone in it.

I like a Monkey Fist myself, have one on my truck keys and my work keys.

HHH Knives posted a link (on the second page of G&G right now) to a very sweet Damascus watch, a collaboration with Montana Knives. Might try getting ahold of him/her/them to either do your fob or point you in the right direction.

If you have something very specific, that you can render on paper, you can get Damascus blanks, and have a machine shop do the job for you. Worth mentioning that with Damascus and all, this could very easily run to $200 before you know it!

I did have a "Pirates of the Carribean" coin as a key fob, but I pulled it off. I carry enough stuff, already. My personal, and long-running favorite key fob is a big stainless D-ring. I mean, I guess you could look at it as a key fob... ("No, officer, that's not improvised brass knuckles, it's a key fob")

If your looking for damascus and gemstones I would try contacting Stacy Apelt who goes by Bladsmth on here. He is an accomplished knife maker and a goldsmith by trade. He's an east coatser as well.

One of my favorite key fobs is about an 8" length of bicycle chain in a loop. I managed bike shops for years and they were my first obsession, so made sense. Now, with the short strong loop on my keys I can use it like a short flail if needed.

fast14riot,

That's funny that you use bike chain for a key fob. I used to have one with about 6 links. When people would ask where I got it, I would respond "off a small bike."

Haha, yeah, I've been asked that too! I just posted a pic in the pocket dump thread and you can see mine there. I much prefer bicycle chain to paracord for keyfobs and various things like that. I always have a length in my truck too.
