Khalsa prototype or not

I found this Spyderco Khalsa (loved or hated !) on ebay as a prototype. Because it's one of my favorites, i bought it. But now I'd like to know if it's a real proto or just a fake ? I mean by fake that the guy would have worn it, used it, and then marked the handle in order to sell it in this poor condition.

So if someone could tell me ...
Thanks

Overall shape looks like real Khalsa, makers mark is just like the production. Really hard to tell, even if there were some differences, it'd be explained by it being a prototype.
The Spyderco marking on the handle though looks too good to have been scribbled on by some dude.
Only Sal or someone who has or has handled a real Khalsa prototype can tell for sure.

I have one from production so i could compare them. The 2 real important differences i noticed are the pivot of the blade which seems to be in two parts on this one (you can see 2 circles on the pic), and the pieces of steel between blade and micarta handle which are not smooth on their edge, like on the production one.
Well, I think only someone from Spyderco or Jot S. Khalsa himself could have the answer !

Like I told you over on the Spyderco factory forum, only Sal, or Mr. Khalsa himself would know for sure, but considering you acknowledged that the seller was discountjds, one of eBay's two most well known purveyors of frankenSpyders, I'd put the chances of it being a genuine prototype somewhere between slim and nil.

Hey, The Deacon, I just realised you were the pleasant owner of the website paulberetta ! I'm delighted to meet you here. You have a awesome collection !

About the Khalsa,as you say, i'll wait the answer of Mr Glesser or someone from Spyderco... please, tell me it's a true prototype !

M2P,
I'm sorry to say it's not a prototype. Spyderco does not sell or give away prototypes. In all likelihood, Paul is correct. It's a frankenSpyder, but not a Spyderco.

Kristi

Ok thanks Kristi :grumpy:
Well, I'll be able to carry it on me so, after changing the handle, because I couldn't with my real Khalsas !
(really, not any small , very small chance it could be a prototype ? :D Well, i prefere to laugh about it ...!)
