Khalsas on Smoky Mtn Knifeworks

Hi Spydie fans - I hope I'm not breaking some forum rule about mentioning knives for sale, but this is a great deal and I just thought I'd pass the word along for those that might not know....NIB serrated Khalsas available on the 'specials' page of the Smoky Mtn. Knifeworks website - incredibly affordable ($35).

Also on the Specials page was the 1999 Gun Digest for $9.99 and a tube of White Lightning for $1.99. Including shipping I got out of there for $52. What a deal!

I received my Khalsa yesterday. It is an unusual, elegant and beautifully made knife.
It is at this price an almost absurd bargain. Get one while you can.

I've always liked this knife and I've been keeping my eye out for a new one at gun shows. Last year I saw one for $45 but I had already loaded up on too much stuff so I thought "next time." But the gun shows since then it has been around $75. So this deal looked great to me.

I ordered one right after this topic was first posted. It came, it was nice. A couple days later I took it to work to show off. Inside of an hour one co-worker had bought it off me and another wanted one next week and another is considering it. People know a good deal when they see it! The listed web-site stopped working for me yesterday afternoon. I worried all night and this morning thinking they might not be selling them anymore. Finally I called this morning and told them I couldn't get through to the web-site from work or home so could I order "internet specials" over the phone? She allowed me to do that so I ordered five more! I've never ordered five knives at one time, much less five of the same knife. If I end up with one or two extra I will have to try the E-bay thing. Great deal, great knife.

It looks like a pretty neat knife... So silly me, I went ahead and ordered it. By phone of course, since the web site is down still. They say they are working on it. Took a minute to check the price, they have it down for a bit under $50 I think. But then she came back and told me she had found the $35 special. Unfortunatley, they are backordered about 2 weeks... And since I just mailed my Delica back to Spyderco, all I have left is my Remote Release.

Yeah, I had to specifically tell them it was supposed to be $34.99 before I got that price. I had my invoice sitting there in front of me from last week so I had all the numbers, etc.

I probably caused a problem by ordering 5. I really considered ordering 10 but I was afraid my wife would get very cool toward me!

Hi,
does anyone know if they are doing plain edge for the same price, or are they only selling the serrated version? If nobody knows I'll email and post back.

Got mine in the mail yesterday. It's a really interesting knife with a solid grip and a knife that grows on you. However, on mine, the liner lock simply would not engage properly. You have to really press the blade back to get the liner lock to snap in. With just a normal thumb action, it's a no go.

I guess I'll have to send it back to SMKW, and if they're backordered, I may never get a knife. I wonder if it would be quicker to send it in to Spyderco for repair or replacement. Suggestions?

I worried about that as well (messed up knife). Since I will end up handling six of them the odds are good. If I do end up with a problem knife I'm going to send it to Spyderco. SMKC would just send it back to them and maybe someday send you a replacement. If it's really busted I would rather have Spyderco tune it up. It'll probably be the better for it.

Gregg

I agree. I called SMKW, and even though the customer service dept. wasn't open on the weekend, I asked about the current stock of Khalsas. I was told that they don't have any more. Who knows if the backorders will ever come through? I think I'd rather deal with Spyderco customer service. Everyone here on the Forum says they are the tops. I imagine they'll handle the problem quickly and courteously.

So I ordered five of these last Thursday mid-day. The lady said something about it taking 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. I said OK. Then people starting saying they were being told they were backordered. I started worrying. Then, this morning, all five arrived. As soon as I realized what the package was I remembered we had this problem with Smoky Mountain before. People called and ordered G-10 Harpies and were told it would take weeks and then they arrived a couple days later. Guess they believe in Lowered Expectations! All five look good and lock up fine.

Gregg

Wahoo! It arrived today. Very nice knife! I'm glad it took less than 2 weeks to get here... I was kinda scared! I suppose they are trying to keep people happy, telling them it'll take 2 weeks and then getting it a few days later, but how many people cancel their orders to get it somewhere that SAYS they will get it there in a few days? Oh well. I've never really thought much of SMKW. When someone mentions them, all I can think about are $5 butterfly knives

I have noticed, however, that the liner lock can be a bit tricky to release. It's hidden in the handle a bit, and there's not much room to get a finger in there, making it hard to put enough pressure on it to release on the first try. That and some spots on the metal that need to be polished off are the only problems I see. Small knife, but the hole out in the middle of nowhere makes it a tight fit in my pocket! Gonna have to empty it out to fit that knife in there. Well, at least I have something to carry around until I get my Delica back.
