Just finished this guy, Khanjar or Mogul dagger. Just have to make some pants and a tidy up.

Carved Ebony handle

This is an outstanding modern take on one of my all time favorite historical knife styles. The only way to imagine it better would be for it to have a carved horse head pommel out of jade, but I suppose I can't be too picky. I've been planning to make something similar for a long while now (though I'm leaning more toward the Kurdish style than the later Moghul), and may have to give you a call when I do. Getting a gapless fit of the blade to the handle seems like it could be difficult.

Thanks for not calling it a "persian" something or other like most folks do whenever their blade has an upswept tip.

Great job!

VERY nice!

I'd like to see at least one damascus or bronze pin in the handle.....even though the carving looks top notch, the contrast between handle material and blade material is almost too stark.....minor point I suppose.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I like it very much!

The handle shape, carving and texturing really appeal to me. The Damascus is very nice too!

That is great Keith. Great job on the damascus and the carving. I am looking forward to seeing what you will be bringing over for Blade.

I love this genre of knife! Buster Warenski did one of these and it was phenomenal- it really got my interest piqued in middle eastern cutlery.

A little while ago, I designed a janbia for a project which is currently in the works, (stay tuned, it will be mind blowing) but it kind of turned into something like a pesh kabz/kard type thing. But I would like to approach this again, maybe with a horse head :)

If you were to make another one like this, one change I think would be cool would be for a super high layer random pattern. Something that would simplify things visually a little bit. I find it just a little bit too busy with that bold damascus patterning and the handle carving, but I'll reserve judgement til the scabbard is built. I presume it will be ebony?

Thanks Travis, feel free to give me a yell mate. I am planning another with W2 and black Jade. Horses head??? Maybe.
