I waited until the last minute, and when it was clear that a trip to Okla. was out, I blew my travelin' money on a new WWII (which I have wanted quite a while anyhoo). Much has already been said about this one, and I can't add to it - only agree. It could well be the best "all around". Some have said the tip is more blunt than the earlier models, but it seems to me that the blunt tip, with the blade held just ahead of the bend, could skin, cape or flense just about anything from a ground squirrel to a moose. Losing some thrust is a good trade-off. This one is by one of the Kamis with No Name, but there may be four now - the mark is done differently with a clear "s-shaped" flame. Another oddity - the habaki bolster has absolutely no seam, even under high magnification. I don't think you can make these out of tubing (maybe the older style, but the flat section of the new one would be next to impossible IMO). The chiseled groove down the sword of shiva is another new item - With the grease still in it, it appeared to be a bad job of chasing, with a dull chisel on steel a bit too cool. Wrong. The kami has cut/stamped a pattern (in a single groove!) of two raised dots, a space, two dots as in ".. .. .. .." - The bottom of the groove remains blackened, but with a toothpick and some Flitz, the dots polished up and the groove appears to have beem inlaid. The "top" corner of the butt cap has been rounded - moreso than I would have done myself - and the "eye of God" on this knife seems to be more occidental :) NICE, NICE knife. I'm cutting a sheath pattern for it now. Oh, no Woodchuck report - it has a horn handle with some very nice grey/white grain here and there. Maybe some Feibing's dressing will......Hmmmm :D

Anyway, with this to look forward to, I didn't miss going to the Khonvention at all. Not a bit. Not even for a moment. That should be enough to guarantee a free ride to the warm place. WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE PUT UP SOME KHONVENTION PICS. I'm getting wet stuff all down my shirt front and all over the new blade. I'm gonna go outside and eat worms, or chop rocks, or...or...

Well Bro, first thing is let me congratulate you on your new baby.
Congratulations!!!!:D

And Bro if I'm remembering correctly there was a khukuri here over the weekend that had that same stamp on it, just an "s" shaped maek above the bowl.
( Had to stop and look as my 30 some are still in the living room floor until I can wipe them all down with a Ballistol Lube soaked rag, but it ain't one of the 2 new ones I got by Jag and Phrem.;) ) Jag and Phrem , hope I got the names right, have been very busy it appears as the 2 I got are both marked with the 4 direction sun.
We, I think Dave or Chris, and I were talking about the mark as it wasn't to the norm and then things got side tracked again and I don't think Uncle Bill was asked about the new mark.

Bro do you mean a single groove is cut for the Sword of Shiva and then has the dots and spaces in the bottom of the groove?
Or does it have the double grooves that are most common on the khukuris with the dots and spaces in the bottom?
Either way it sounds pretty nice. Looks as if the kamis have "kicked it up another notch.":):)

This is done in a single, cut groove. The dots are raised, and just a little smaller than the head of a straight pin, but very deliberately done, when the grease is gone. The black at the bottom of the cut is blackened metal, and when the dots are polished it is very understated, but way, way too cool :D My other KNN knives have what appears to be a wick coming up from the bowl, with flames. This is just an "S" flame. Same mark, generally, but larger, and more recognizeable as a butter lamp.

Rus -

Until you asked, I hadn't measured it. This one is an exact 16.5. Not being smart-aleck (for a change) but I really hadn't measured any of them until I got a Jag & Prem Sirupati that looked like a slightly oversized 12. It was - 14 on the nose, and is now my favorite "hide-out". When I finally got them all taped, I was surprised that the lengths were "as advertised" - many "$100-per-inch" US bladesmiths quote their blades as being "give or take 1/2", as they say they cannot exactly control forged blade length. Sheesh - what will a mere 400 years experience do for a guy :D

Walosi, sounds like you have a twin to my Bura 16.5 WW2. It also has the blunter tip.

I have a 16.5 Shop One WW2 with wood handle that I'd always grab when I didn't know what I'd need it for. It was friendly enough I guess, but we just didn't click. I wanted something that had a personality. The Bura WW2 does that. As the old border patrolmen used to say, "He'll do to ride the river with." Any HI will do to ride the river with, but it's more comfortable when the two of you make a team.

And some of you newer guys are probably shaking your head over a guy saying a knife has a personality or a spirit. Just remember these are made on the other side of the world, and reality over there is not necessarily the same as what we consider reality. If a man puts his blood, sweat, tears, and a part of his soul into forging a knife over there, if part of him is in that knife when it leaves Nepal, it still remains after it gets here if you listen hard enough.

Keep an open mind, and be ready for a surprise ( shock would be more accurate ) when the right HI comes your way.

They will talk to you - If you're on the same wavelength, all you have to do is listen.

Soon my first khuk will arrive. We'll see what it has to say. :D

It'll probably tell me to eat more vegetables.

Bruce, you are going to love it. One of the things it is bound to tell you is that it is lonely and wants some companions. This is the onset of HIKV, it is normal.:D

Bruiser, it will not only tell you to eat more veggies, it will tell you how to slice and dice them, chop and split firewood to cook them, and what proper meats to flavor them with. If you happen to have a pet monkey.......keep him in the other room  :p

Bruise, I don't think the gloves will help. I think HIKV is also air born (The experts would know). :) So if that's the case, then just being in the same room with a Khuk will infect you. :D

Bruiser:

Heber is right - HIKV is not only airborne, it is intravenous, intramuscular, and intraocular (just looking at a nice HI Khuk can give you the bug :D )

It is not intermural - ya don't needs ta go ta skool ta git it:rolleyes:

I wonder why some people are imune to it while others get hit hard (Like me :)).

You either like Khuks, or you don't. Those who don't go "elseplace" (as my grandaughter says). Those who remain are infected. Some (1) may try to "research" for a cure...HAW HAW HAW..ahem..but that is merely a diversion as the bug spurs them on in an unending quest for more and more Khukuris....even to the point of soliciting donations for....KHAK!:barf: research :D
