My GS is very dirty - some type of stain on the blade that looks like deep rust. I kept the Khuk pierced into the ground while I wasn't using it today and maybe it some mineral stain from the soil ..

Any ideas how to remove it ??

Lots of solutions to this. My personal preferences for stain on a blade is ultra fine(#0000) steel wool soaked with a bit of oil(just what'severs around, generally use Rem-oil as that's all I used to keep around, but Marvel Myster Oil or about any other oil will work).

Someone else will be sure to chime in with this answer, so I'll say it firs.t ;) BIt of Flitz polish should clean it up too.

I use the "green" pad, scotch brite"? If that doesn't work, crocus cloth. Of couse if I'm brave that day, say a prayer, and I use my baldor buffing wheel.

braso... is a a pretty powerfull polish... it might polish off all that junk (including minor rust).. i use braso on my khuks and it makes them shine like they are ready for parade inspection :)

my advice is that you try the gambit of polishes b4 you use somehting more abbrasive. Polishes take minor rust and stains outa the metal pretty d@mn well IMHO.

it would be a shame if you use an abrasive on your khuk that ruins the finish a bit if you dont have to. ;)

BTW tell me about your GS... is it youer fav khuk... why or why not?

Hasn't some of the fellows had pretty good luck with Mag Wheel cleaner and polish?
That is if Two Dogs lives in an area that still doesn't use the old wood wheeled wooden carts pulled by oxen usually.
Personally for a user I prefer the red Scotch-Brite pads. It looks nice and is easy to maintain. I prefer the finish that the Scotch-Brite gives over the highly polished blades anyway, maybe that's why the BirGhorka Villagers are my favorites.:D

I say shove it the rest of the way into the ground, then come back an pull it out tomorrow.;)

Seriously, though, it will have an aged look to it, but at least it will be uniform. Then slap a new edge on it with the hone, and yer ready to go!

I've considered doing this to an AK i have...

I stained my BAS by hacking out a small stump in the back yard. It ended up with an almost blued finish where the stump juices got on the blade.
I thought it was just sap, and cleaned the blade off with soap & water -- no change.
Hit it with WD-40 to displace the water -- "blued" finish unchanged.
Polished it with MAAS paste polish -- Magic Stone mirror finish completely restored.:)

Stef - the GS has become my favourite user. I used to have a perfect Bura Chiruwa which got regular use and I had it pretty sharp - I gave that to a friend of mine, it was awesome. Since I have moved into my new home I get to us my khuks more and I am stoked with the GS. It's extra reach really helps in lopping the top ot he hedge off and pretty much anything else. It's really nicely balanced too, very strong. I like the extra length but would prefer a GS a little shorter as 21 inches can be a bit frightening for the neighbours ..

LOL
