There is an image on the HI site of a Gurkha cleaning the blade of his Khuk, I was looking at and couldn't help wondering what 'type' of Khuk you would define it as?

To me it looks like a sort of BAS with an 'eye of the dove' Cho, any help would be welcome guys, I have been wondering about it for a while.

Hi StmmZaum,

Looks like a 12" - 13" Dharan Sirupate to me!! I've got one upstairs!! This type of sirupate is very popular with some of the Ghurkha', although some prefer to have the cho open so they can use it in a functional way. Kohei

:)

To my eye It looks too pointed to be a gelbu special & a different waist style as well. Not to mention its not a long European or American style handle on it. Tried to blow it up to look for fullers etc. but need higher quality pix!

Spiral

Spiral, yeah, I was guessing it was possibly a 'family' Khuk, I am guessing it isn't HI because it doesn't match any patterns on the site and as you said, the handle is rather small. The other thing is the Bolster, doesn't look HI to me, so yeah, I am guessing it isn't HI or issue, rather something from the family or purchased privatly.

The blade looks just like the one on my non-HI Chainpuri. Shallow angle at the spine, closed cho, nice and pointy. Of course this one doesn't have the belled butt to the handle but the blade form is the same. By the way, for a martial blade I prefer the chaipuris to the kobras (I have both). There actually is a nepali name for the Gelbu Special form of kukri but it is escaping me now:confused:
