Khuk reprofiling service in UK?

A good while ago I recieved a 15" AK from Sher I believe. It's a monster of a blade, that seems pretty well sorted to what I want (packable chopping), however it has a rather large dull spot where the sweet spot is.

Unfortunately I lack the tools to do anything but light maintainance on this blade so was hoping someone would be able to do it at a cost.

I recall a friend of mine a little while back cracked the tip off his 15" AK and HI offered him the chance to have it reprofiled by someone in Scotland rather than sending it back for warranty work.

With that in mind and the above I was curious as to if anyone knew of someone within the UK who might be happy to undertake this task for a few stacks of beer tokens :)?

I had hoped to send it stateside to have a Kydex sheath knocked up at the same time, unfortunately it seems like UK international postage is approaching the cost of a new khuk, so that's out of the question I think :(

Any help much appreciated.

Have you read the sharpening information here? I learned how to sharpen, you can too. But if it seems impossible after trying, take it to any knife store and have them sharpen it.

I bet if you put some 400 grit sandpaper on a sandpaper paddle with a rubber backing, you'd get it sharp. You don't need special tools.

Don't give up.

'reprofiling' means you are taking off a lot more metal than normal sharpening, you are changing either the edge style or changing the angle of the edge. Is that what you intend?

By the way, there is a fellow named Vadim Grynko who owns www.vessleatherworks.com. He has done a lot of work for me, and is no stranger to HI products. He doesn't do kydex, but he does work from scanned images. You could avoid the cost of shipping off your khuk.

Mindz_I, get yourself a 3-sided diamond stick, like one of these:

Either size will work. Just keep rubbing the dull spot from both sides at about a 17 degree angle. Work from rough 'grit' to fine. Don't sweat the angle too much, either. You'll know when the edge is right for you.

I give this advice assuming that you want to use your khuk, rather than have it for display. There are a LOT of sharpening techniques with much more finesse than what I've described, but this one will get you back into the field.

Holler if this doesn't make sense.

On Tora's forum, there's a forumite who goes by the name of Ozparker72 who is recommended by Simon Hengle. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the advice all.

Ah ha, didn't realise I was using the wrong terminiology. My appologies :)

The edge is pretty thick there. Like 1mm or so, so seems like it'll require a fair bit of material cutting away which was why I thought maybe machinery would be a better bet.

Yeah this is a worker rather than display. In fairness I prefer a used khuk for display anyway :)
