Khukri house khukries...Anyone have experience with those????

try the HI ones, from what i have head they are better - you get what you pay for...

iBlade, if you can't speak from your own knowledge, why distract from the original question? Once we get a discussion going on KH, we can add other ideas, but it's not fair to the poster to set a negative tone from the start.

i own 2 of their knives they are not the best looking knives but they are workhorses the horn handles are fit well to the tangs the sheath fit a little tight and the finnish on the knives are rough like a hi village model but they chop really well and hold a good edge and sharpen easy with sandpaper and a mousepad if you are looking for a knife that you can take camping and beat the hell out of it and not worry bought it then they are a very good knife

hope this helps

I saw this thread in the HI forum on my iPhone then went to my computer to post a reply... and it was gone! Luckily I found it again and can post my own experiences.

I ordered two khukuris from Khukuri House before I found Himilayan Imports. I even thought they were the same company at one time. Needless to say the quality doesn't even come close to HI. I ordered the KH knives 1 week before I ordered my HI, but got them almost 2 weeks AFTER I got the HI. Also, the shipping cost me $38 which is very steep (though I understand it is expensive to ship from Nepal).

The quality was awful on my Modern Craft and Raw Panawal, or maybe I was spoiled by HI, and they immediately went up for sale on ebay at a loss by me. I didn't even want to gift them to someone and tarnish their idea of what a khukuri is. HI are all hand-made and you can almost feel the love that went into each blade. Khukuri House blades feel cheap and are probably mass-produced and the quality and craftsmanship are just not there.

If you want a quality product, go with HI. If you want one of those knockoff blades like you find at a fair or carnival so you won't care about beating up, get a Khukuri House. Personally, I would rather snag a cheap one of the deal of the day over at HI than pay even more for lower quality at KH.

Sorry for the long post, but I was really, really unhappy with my Khukuri House blades and would like to keep anyone else from making the same costly mistake I made.

This thread may be long dead, but I just want to give a rebuttale to the above comment. KHHI Khukuris are hand made, not massed produced. You may have gotten lemons from them or I got a rare gem, but the one I own is fine (Warrior #1) I dont like the handle on mine but I knew I wouldnt when I ordered it and plan to cut the foam off and replace it with leather. There was a large finger print lightly rusted into the blase, but I think that was from customs not KHHI and the main chopping area of the blade wasn't sharp but it only took a few passed to get it up to par. I think both companies have something to offer and that you will get a usable product from either. With that said my next Khukuri is coming from KHHI, but it will be a display only knife, the Kothimora Dragon Carved model.

I've had a few from KH and several from HI. I will say I prefer the HI offerings, and I would never say that KH makes a better khukuri than HI does, but all the KHs were very solidly made and perfectly serviceable tools. I'd tend towards their more expensive side as the quality (not just ornate-ness) really does seem to climb with the price. They were prompt in responding to the messages I sent them, and emailed me after I'd received delivery asking if I was satisfied. Doesn't make them diamonds in the rough by itself, but it did help the first impression a good bit.

The major knock against them as far as ordering in the US is that shipping takes a good while and adds significantly to the cost, so much so that you likely won't see much of any savings. Hard to justify, for me at least, when every single HI khuk I have is at least as good as anything I've seen come out of KH. I ordered my KHs completely out of curiosity, and while I won't likely do so again (when I can get a HI from Yangdu in two days without any fuss), I'm satisfied that they're very serviceable tools, and am not likely to sell them. I seldom want to part with khukuries. ;)

want to add my 2 c...

everyother guy talks about house KH charges a lot for shipping, but HI charges exactly the same. (international) not everybody lives in america, and for those that dont, KH is a cheaper alternative.

the HI khuks do look nice, but at my station in life, not sure i'd spend that much on something i'd be loathe to use hard...
