Hello everyone! Im new to the forum and hope to learn many new and exciting things about the fun sharp things we call knives.

Question , has anybody bought khukuris from khukri house? if so can you post pis of them I want to get one from them somtime but shipping looks pricey but its on the other side of the world so mneh.

thanks

I heard their overall fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired.

You Should you should look into Himalayan imports.

I had been eyeing their "Survival" knife for a little while - doesn't seem to be a bad looking blade. No idea what the quality of manufacturing is like, though...

as far as fit and finish is concerned as long as it looks reasonable it will be fine...i checked out himilayan imports...all their stuff looks the same (the khukuris)

I would make it myself but my forging skills are very very primitive (not in a good way) and my finished pieces look very crude (but still sharp enough to amputate)

This knife is supposed to be the larger companion to my mora clipper knife...with a mora and a khukri you can get alot of stuff done.

I plan on grinding my own edge on it when I receive it ,no stock knife ive encountered is sharp enough out of the box :p

I have a Khukurihouse Khuk. It's decent. Good for the money. If you're looking for high quality though I'd say get a Himalayan Imports one as I've heard nothing but good things about them.

For me a Khuk was something new that I wanted that I wasn't going to use much so I didn't care to pay enough for the best.

But like I said, they're decent.

I have an old KH Kuk and its a beast at 3/4" thick that said it doesn't hold a candle to any of the Himalayan Imports Knives....

HI has better fit and finish, better edge retention and YANGDU!! The best mod/owner/op on the planet earth.

Not that I am bias.

I was very disappointed with the quality (fit and finish) on my order from kukri house, i ordered one of their kukris with a fuller (chirra) and it was uneven (wavy on one side about 3/4's of the way down the blade, bad enough to almost make the blade look bent). The "leather" covering the sheath was half cured rawhide (smelled like a dead animal), there was pitting on the blade (only a small amount, but still pitting).
I don't know anything about HI but have never heard anyone say anything but good things about them here, if i had to do it all over again i would spend the little extra money for HI. In fact I'm already planning how to try and convince the wife why i need one of theirs.

I agree with all support for HI and comments re. KH. Its a little like the horse hair cups that are sold in certain Asian countries, there are simply not enough horses to produce enough hair to make all the horse hair cups that are being sold, so they the hair gets replaced with bamboo. I reckon that there are only so many real kukri-smiths (sorry don't know the right word) and if anyone has ever been to Nepal, they will know that there is also not enough leaf springs to make all the kukris ordered, so something has to give.

If you want a good kukri as a user, then of course there is HI, but other US makers make very good kukris too, much less shipping and with warantees.

If you want an 'original' kukri, you cannot beat a 'real' British Army issue kukri.

Got a large and small. Not too bad, I got the panawal types which if I remember correctly it means the full tang with scales. Not too bad for the price but for approx 1/3 more you can get a HI khuk from the subforum (Deal Of The Day).

Not too bad for the price IMO.

No personal experience with KH's wares, so I can't comment, but I thought I'd just address a few posts here:

Hmm, I guess if you only looked at a limited range of their stuff... for those of us who haunt their sub forum though, there's quite a variety... from the tiny Bilton to the occasional 25"+ monsters, the big-bellied YCS to the slender Kobra, the bolo-like Tamang and the almost semi-circular crescent Sirupati. And that's not even getting into their non-khukuri blades.

The HI users also have a warrantee, with the one for the Chiruwa Ang Khola probably having the most extensive coverage against damage or defects.

I have knives from both KH and HI and while HI does make the better overall blade as far as fit and finish goes. But the blades themselves from KH from my experience are nothing to scoff at. Yea HI is better but u aren't ever going to break or make a KH kukri unusable. A KH kukri will last a lifetime next to the HI the HI will just do it looking better.

Bought 2. Jungle panewal and Sirupate special. Satisfied with both. Except they were not sharp enough. For me. Little time with a file and then a stone and I'm good to go.

I've got a couple of KH khukris, and feel I got a good deal for the price. I ordered one of their full tang models with wood handles and have been beating the living crap out of it since I got it.

I don't remember if it was super sharp when I got it, but it's shaving sharp now and I didn't spend much time sharpening it.

The chakma and kharda are pretty much useless. I don't even carry them, and had a slimmer sheath made for my khukri.

Ive got a mukti made by KH, very impressed with it.

Its a user not something to display and i genuinely love that about it, plus the fact that it one of the most massive knives ever made

I've got a KH, and I have found it to be reliable when I have used it (sadly that is a little less than I would like) but due to the nature of the size I find that I don't use it too often. Haha not quite EDC material because of the size. But then as some of the others have said I have heard good reports about HI knives

I have had kh kukri, two of them, really tough, relatives are still beating the tar out of them, discovered hi,few years back, fit n finish better and just as tough.there is a kh dealer In texas selling their kukri, hes closed now for a week or two for holidays, dont know if I can say his company name on here or not ,so I wont, its where I bought my 2 though.the dotd on the hi forum, best deal goin..

Finish is better on Hi models. I should say that my favorite user is a Panawal 16" from KH. I had to sand the metal on the handle to round it off, since there was some wood shrinkage. However, it is a great user and chopper. I did have to return a couple of small ones to GK, an eBay seller years ago. The large Panawal really holds an edge forever and keeps it after lots of heavy chopping.
