has anyone had experience with the khukri house kukris? I save one of thier pic and the knife looks like a very poor fit handle to steel when enlarged.

It's kind of like being married. You stop playing around, but that doesn't mean you don't look, if you know what I mean. ;) :D :D

Pretty nice as a wall hanger. Very expensive when you factor in shipping which is incredibly overpriced. At least Tora UK shipping is somewhat within the realms of reason. Less utilitarian than Tora and way less so than HI. If you want a very expensive khuk with a nice wood scabbard meant to hang on the wall and only be used for very light cutting chores then they are OK, but for durability and usability they don't even compare to even the lightest HI blade.

They have a fancy touristy shop in downtown Kathmandu where they make very similar blades according to pattern for tourist sale and trade. Lots of carving and dragon engraved blades and fancy scabbards. Pretty but lightweight. Each of their khuks comes with a cheap hardwood stand in 3 pieces, that is only useful as a template if you want to make your own stand out of a better quality wood.

At Uncle Bills average prices I could buy a bulletproof Chiruwa AK, a WWII and at least a third knife, say a 15" sirupate, and have 3 great all around knives for chopping, defense and utility for the price of one NKH blade with shipping, and all three would cut rings around it.

Regards,

Norm

thanks for your responses. I'm not sure which model I was looking at at kuk house. They seemed to have comparable models to Hi Imports. Like I said, fit looked really bad in photo. Prices seemed OK, What are they charging for shipping and handling I did not see the rates on thier site. I,m not buying I have a WWII Hi should be at my door any day its like waiting for Christmas mourning.

You can add a khuk to your notional "cart" at Khukuri House and take the transaction to short of the last step to get the shipping price. It's pretty stunning. There will also be a wait -- esp. as compared to Uncle Bill's lightning delivery.

The Gurkha House dichirra AK model I just got off eBay also came with a cheap stand - five pieces that don't fit together worth a d... with a varnish (?) finish that must have been applied in a sawdust factory. The F&F is not bad but is short of HI standard. Pretty heavy built - 7/16 thick. Heat treating? To be determined.

I have concluded that one should get a couple of "other" brand khuks just to appreciate what quality is. Otherwise, HI or antiques.

I have a few of their khukuri around somewhere, I think they might be in a box in the garage…..

One thing you can use them for if you do martial arts is grind the points round, and file the edge flat then you can use them for training. I have done that with some tourist khuks that I bought for $5

I think the Khukiri House has some nice looking khuks, but like the others have commented, it is not even in the same league with HI.
Unfortunately HI doesn't provide too much of a selection in fancy khuks due to number of existing Khuks and some communication problems , but they are fairly open to suggestions and tend to get together for a special purchase.
What HI does have are some very nice pieces of work and much better in comparison for workmanship and pricing. :D

If you like fancy, get an H.I. Chitlangi, in either its 18" or 21" form. It's also extremely well made, and will put in a good day's work if called upon to do so. Anything fancier, you'll be in a different league...
