Khukri House?

I number of people have used these, myself and a few others. They are fairly solid in that if you use them they won't suffer gross damage easily. However the quality of the steel is lower than Himalayan Imports and thus there is a difference in edge retention, sharpening and durability of the blade in extreme use. I would never get that type of handle on that type of blade as a side note.

I can only add that a 10" blade is not standard to military khukuri (1" short)and the finger grooves restrict the grip, preventing some useful grips.

OK. I've been convinced about the grip. I'm comparing this blade to the Cold Steel kuhkri machete that came in the mail yesterday. I tested it out on some brances and the edge became FLAT and warped. It also came out of box with some chips in the steel. Will a Khukri House blade do that?

Others I was looking at was:

but that's a 2lb knife!

What does an unpolished/rough blade mean?

I am looking for something I can use while in the woods...cutting some wood, hunting/skinning, etc.

The buy one get one free deal seems sketchy but the knife seems pretty good.

Cold Steel, which is strictly a marketing organization, sells "kukri-shaped objects" made for them by others. When you get a real khukuri and compare it to the Cold Steel product, you will see the difference.

At least the Cold Steel products cost more.

Do I hear an echo?

(That's Himalayan Imports with a forum here at BF in the manufacturer's section.)

If I had the money, I would buy from HI...however I do not, but can afford a khukri off of Khukri House or ebay...that is why I was asking about those knives! :)

HI's has deals on a regular basis at which khukuris are significantly discounted. They also used to sell village models which were again heavily discounted.

After you have payed for the shipping from Nepal for a Khukuri House, you will have paid about as much as you would for an HI.

Alright...i will look into a dicounted khukri (If I can find one from HI for around $30), but I still would like to know what you think of the Villager (Jungle) and Service models from Khukri House.

Wow. Ok, that answered a lot of questions, but it seems for now that I am stuck with my Cold Steel kukri machete because my 5 mins. of testing is grounds for Cold Steel not accepting a return, so I will have it sharpened razor sharp and see how it performs. Or I might sell it on Ebay. I'll start a new thread to ask about people's experience with this tool. Thanks everyone!
