I didn't see the point of asking in the H.I. forum about these products, anymore than asking about Spyderco liner locks in the Spidy forum. Too much bias and conflict of interest. Anyway, anyone buy Kukri House choppers? Good, suck, in between? I've seen old reviews but K.H. might have uped their game, dunno, that's why I'm asking. K.H. khuks are significantly cheaper than H.I.'s and I'm wondering if you get what you pay for in this situation, or if I'm in for a nice surprise. I'm into big knives that double as a hatchet as I live by dense forest.

I've handled a couple of them over the years. They are certainly serviceable chopping tools. While the price comes in much lower than an HI (unless you grab a deal of the day), you also have to factor in shipping. Also, you are going to have to jump through a few more hoops regarding warranty than you would with an HI khuk.

That said, they certainly are not bad khuks in the least. Fit seems to be be pretty good as well as finish. Generally, HI's come a little more polished from what I have seen and a little tighter regarding flushness of bolsters and grips. These are simply cosmetic issues that I wouldn't think would hinder the knife performance at all. They feel to be very solid in the hand and should last several lifetimes.

My main gripe with the company is that several years ago, some of the knives displayed on their site were actually taken directly off the HI site and presented as their work. At any rate, it resulted in a kind forumite water marking the HI pics.

We Spyderco fans will find you and be biased wherever you go. :D

I have ordered once from KH this Autumn. Delivery to Hungary was very slow (over 1 month). On the other hand, they kept me constantly informed about the status of my order, answered my emails etc. so all in all I was satisfied with the service.

As for the khuks, I am quite satisfied with their quality. I can imagine that a highly polished H.I. makes a better demonstrator item, but as a tool, the 12" (edge length) KH Survival khuk served me good so far. I've chopped down a 6" thuya in our garden without any problems. No edge roll, no chipping, no handle loosening etc. IMHO it is good value for the money. Please note however that I have not yet handled a H.I. piece thus I can't compare them directly.

I've had a McCurdy for about a year and it has done a stellar job for me... I'm pretty happy with it. Some day I will end up with a HI, but for now the one I have is great!!!

I bought a small one from them, had a problem with it and it was replaced, it is a user, don't expect perfection, the blade is tough on the cutting edge,I am pimping my one a bit.

Good enough for me guys, thanks. I think that available $$$$ will decide this one. I couldn't care less about a polished blade as that doesn't help me whack down bush. Gotta grab a few more Beckers first anyways.

I have ordered four times to Khukri House. They are very easy to deal with and twice I asked for custom engraving on the knife and it was for free. They can change things easy. Email was very fast in return. Shipping is not cheap, but get want you want. I would order again and will!

PS, I have a few HI and like them also.

I prefer Khukri House knives:D and HI Swords.:)

If I see a KH model I like at a reasonable price I'd buy it.

Same for Tora Blades kukri's ...I hope that I will be able to get one later this year.

I am looking forward to having khuk's from all three ... :D
