Following my recent question/post about SAS Gurkhas Khukris, there's another point I'd like to share with you.

A friend of mine gave me this khukri, bought by someone for him (so for me) in India. This Khukri is very heavy. It came with a ugly purple sheath (not shown).

What do you know of Indian Khukris?
Is this knife a "knife for tourists"?
The blade is very heavy, used, and has been re-glued to the handle... moreover the "cut" near the ricasso looks realistic, I mean I don't know much about Khukris as this interest is quite new for me, but I tend to think the blade has been used, it is a "real one" and the handle has been added later for commerce purpose. The way they glued it is not very clean but robust; the handle is very practical : the knife really fits well in the hand.

Do you have already seen such a handle on a Khukri?

Maybe I should have posted this in the Himalayan Imports forum...
May a moderator move this thread there?

Guillaume,
Your Khukuri appears to be a tourist piece. The "real" ones are usually with black water buffalo horn handles. The sheath will be wood covered in black leather. Two little knives called the "Karda" (sharp) and the "Chakma" (dull) should be included in the sheath. Many knives actually used by the locals will have no sheath, and be very plain and rough finished.Yours is A great looking knife though, and a fine souvineir. Thanks for sharing.

Khukuris with tulwar handles are unusual, but not unknown.
This is an interesting one.

Guillaume, you are welcome to come over to the Himalayan Imports forum with khukuri questions and pics.
