well then. got your attention! good!

check out these two khukris. very similar in shape, size, weight, why not do a comparison? they're damn close. one shows my evolution of profiling and convex technique. maybe perfect someday, i think i'll want a belt grinder though for much more. yar. the other one is out of the box as new. mmmMMmmmm.

curiously pensive stuff :)

Bladite, is that a BGRS and a Pen Knife?
Why not a comparrison as they really are close, who'd a thunk it? ;) :D

they are compared. noticed the overlap pictures (last two), they're SO close as to be nearly the same...

now, was that the case in the beginning? mmm... one of them has a far more leaf heavy tip. i'd tend to think it would cut harder on a good swing. the other had more beef in the spine, so better balance? mmm.

looks like you got me. ;)

The BGRS was one of my favorites at the time I was putting the Pen to paper. (pun intended....:D :p)

I wanted real bad to have the chopping sensation of the GRS & BGRS...but in a more managable size. I'm tickled, of course, to see the 15" and 18" versions of the Pen knife...and would love to see a side-by-side test-n-review.

heh heh :) what was the originaol Pen size?

oddly enough, i've been thinking of the 12 inch Pen as a sort of "medicine blade", which is to say, something like a Tracker knife... mmm. the size and ratio is very familiar. haven't seen a 15" as yet but do have a "16 inch 21 ounce horn handle villager GRS by Bura". spiffy. the 14 inch in between is of course my WSK...

since the cat is out of the bag... the blades in the photos are:

17.5 inch 29 ounce GRS by kumar. Satisal wood handle.
17.0 inch 24 ounce villager Pen Knife by Bura. Sisau hard wood handle.

whouda thunk it?

The original, original Pen was 13 inches. That got shortened to 12.5 inches and then come between 12-13" now and then.

your 17.5 incher is a BGRS (Baby Ganga Ram Special). Bet it doesn't feel like a baby, though...eh? ;)

The only thing I would change on the original design (and I've always maintained this) would have been to have had the handle just 1/2" longer. As it is, you can get away with overlapping your hand onto the bolster...works good enough.

mmm, what's the difference between a BGRS and a GRS? the actual text from the DOTD for both of mine said "ganga ram", no baby, or special... the big guy there is a $75 blem :> the small one not pictures was $65. not too shabby.

on that 12 inch, i'm definitely on the bolster, but that feels okay. the big guy, the handle is SLIM compared to the GRRS :> a touch longer too. mmm.

The BGRS is what we call the less-than-21"-and-nearly-3lb GRSs. ;) The nickname is mainly used in the Cantina.
