Posted this in the general forum becuase I am new and do not know my way around.

I have two that were handmade in Nepal and I have no idea how much they are worth. How I got them is kind of a long story but here goes. I will omit certain details as I don't feel they should be viewable. When I lived in country x there were Ghurka's acting as the perimeter security guards before you got into the compound. My father befriended the Captain of the guard and asked him for a knife for me as I was about to graduate boot camp. The Captain knew who I was as I had been living at home a year earlier and obliged. Before my family moved my Dad asked for another knife as a present. So now I have two of them. They are both handmade (it is pretty easy to tell) with brass on the hilt. I polished the leather on one sheath to turn the color from brown to black and give it a high gloss like the Guards knives. Both knives are engraved with "Gorkha Army" and what looks like two crossed khrukri's. The engraving is kind of crude. Anyone have any knowledge or an idea of what direction for me to look? There is some more stuff engraved on the hilt but I would not be able to type it as it does not resemble english.

Charger?

Not to disappoint, or suggest that yours are the same as mine...but,

I have three or four "Gorkha Army" khuks in various sizes. Each has a number stamped on the blade as well as the crossed khuks.

In fact, it was the first of these that brought me to Himalayan Imports.

Not bad khukuris, really. I'd put them in the 6.5-7.5 range on a scale of 10, with H.I. stuff being 8.5-10 on the same scale.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Be well and safe.

Thank you. Mine look like it has three 5's stapped on them but the first 5 looks like it has a zero underneath it. I think. Both knives don't strike me as first rate quality so I am not expecting a whole lot. What does the 6.5-7.5 range mean?

uhhh...

home-made grading system... sort of a C+ or B- in school grades.

They take and keep an edge fairly well, and I've not had particular problems with them, but I haven't used them extensively.

Good fortune to you.

Hi, charger. Any chance at all of pictures? It's very hard to help you on just a description.
Are the knives new? What is their length?

Hmmm. Never mind. Looks like Kis, as usual, has beaten me to the good information.

Yep, that's the type of khukuri.

I have a 15in Ang Khola type, a 15in and change British Army Service type, a 13in that looks much like yours, with the broad blade--weighs about 12 oz., and a 10inch, 6.5 inch-bladed sort of broad-bladed bilton type.

I'd imagine that they are tourist blades, perhaps made in the same place since the "Gorkha Army" stamps are equally uneven and the crossed blades are very much the same.

Here's a shot of the 10 incher before I took stuff off. Nice enough for what it is, and over the years, none was more than $20, shipped to Wisconsin from various sellers.

By the way, Welcome to the Cantina.

Thank you for the info Kis. I will be around, I try to read and learn more than I post. Unless of course I have a question.
