Hi all,
Today I decided to make an upgrade to my living space in the tent. Made a nifty shelf for odds and ends like my alarm clock and shaving kit. It's just a piece of plywood suspended by 550 cord from the tent frame, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of how I made it. I found a piece of plywood, right width but way too long. After a little head scratching, I laid it across a two by four and used my BAS on it. A series of chops, all in a straight line, had it neatly scored about 3/4 of the way through. The plywood snapped fairly clean along the score line, and I used my khuk to clean up the rough edges.
Then, I used my BAS's karda to bore holes for the 550 cord. The finished shelf looks pretty good with my stuff neatly stowed on it. A buddy asked me where I found carpentry tools. I replied, "they were hanging on my belt":D

Khuk fieldcraft at it's finest. Great idea, maybe next time I go camping I will make some field furniture for the campsite. A khuk makes a good draw knife too.

Good field report, and shows what man can do with the most basic of tools.
It the project goes south, you can use the other of man's basic tools, fire, to fix it! Heehee.

Well wishes to you and yer men.

In a very poor county where I worked once, I saw that the morgue instruments were all across-the-counter Chicago Cutlery. I wonder which Khukuri would do well in that role?

I've seen folks build a house near the lake in Pokhara with nothing but khukuris. Great report from the field, Sarge. No place like home, eh?

Hey Sarge, now you should try to shave yourself with your khuk :D
And good luck out there! Each time I pray for our Polish soldiers in Afghanistan, I add your name to the list.

You better put his name on the list twice if Sarge starts shaving with the khukuri. I think I'd rather face the Taliban than try it.

Kind of don't-try-this-at-home thing, eh? I wouldn't try it either, to be honest. Tried once with a German survival knife and it didn't work well for my face:footinmou

Here's how I looked after my first shave with a khukuri.

Y'all think you're kidding, but here's a pic of Sarge's pre-deployment haircut which he gave himself with one of his own knives, which he also shaves with:

Glad to hear you are finding good uses for the BAS. Hope your guys are doing fine and getting used to the crooked knives.

Have a good one and God Bless.:)

The way my mind works -- Bruise, we often think of Oriental people as being small. Did you see that Chinese basketball player who was just signed by the NBA?

I have some cousins who are over six feet. But they're Saudi too. :D

My theory is where they grew up and the availability of such things as milk and other foods not previously available. No milk = no hieght. Dunno if it's true but it's my excuse. :)

And if that Chinese NBA player is a Chinese National then he's some form of Communist genetic experiment. (remember the Chinese swimmers at the last Olympics?) :)

I have a Korean buddy, Kim Chul (Chuck), who is 6' and 230lbs. They grow 'em big. Another Korean Friend Chung Bu, also like 6'2", 220lbs.

Nutrition makes a big difference in growth.
Not just calories and calcium, but the right set of fats and other components.
With all the lumber and half the nails you need, the house frame can only get that big.
