Khuks and Sonicare Toothbrushes...busted!

I got busted by my wife today. I've been waiting for her to change out the brushes on our Sonicare toothbrush. I took the old brushes and cut the bristles down on one of them. Wheeee! You should see it polish away. All the nooks and crannies are clean. I took the other brush and cut all the bristles off. I then glued a block of light wood from Hobby Lobby...not balsa, some kind of hard wood...so they said. I pinned on a little piece of sandpaper to touch up an area of rust that was the reason the khuk was a blem. Well, it worked great.

I realize that working on a bigger area will make this little contraption kind of useless. But, I was thinking more along the lines of polishing brass and working on handles...both wood and horn. What do you all think?

BTW, my wife put out some old picture frames that need polishing on the table where I was working. Lots of Victorian nooks and crannies. Well, it's the yin and yang, right?

Would a regular electric toothbrush work, or does this rely on sonic wave technology? ;)

I use a Sonicare and it's like a BJ for your mouth, great stuff!

you can get sonicare knockoffs for as little as $10 at Target, Wal-mart etc. which would be ideal for cleaning/polishing, and the refill heads are cheaper. Like $3 for a 5 pack.

My Sonicare was $100, and two new heads are $30, so i think i'll keep em for the teeth only, at that price :D

I have 2-3 battery operated electrics
I like the round-head rotating type.
Some have std bristles too which cut off easily.
Glued a round felt 'bumper pad' to one,
which works fine unless it gets to heavy with water.
$5-15, less when you find a sale.
I like the Bruan brand.
I save old brush heads (from teeth) for cleaning purposes.
Some brands (cheaper usually) do not have removable heads.
Haven' tried Sonicare.

$1 stores sometimes carry a battery operated nail file
that is nice for very light buffing/sanding.

Just bought a 6" auto buffer at Walmart for $15.

Yippee.

I see a new khuk buffer as soon as I finish on the car!

Very resourceful, Ben!

And Gonzo, I will never again be able to look at my Sonicare without thinking of your remark. Thanks for that.

:D

Here's a non-intuitive use of a sonic toothbrush.

Some guy was growing heirloom tomatoes in a greenhouse and the plants, like many non-hybrid heirloom varieties were reluctant to self pollinate-they just didn't want to drop the pollen. Since he had no insects in the greenhouse, he decided the simulate the action of a common pollinator-the bumblebee. This insect lights on the flower and vibrates its wings which shakes the pollen loose from the interior of the flower.

So he touched the sonic toothbrush to flowers in his greehouse, and said he got a good crop of tomatoes!

A new use for an electric tooth brush. Very interesting.:) I'm not suprised that your wife was not trilled. Most girls think it is crazy that I like working with and on knives.

Dean, I'll probably get one of cheaper battery operated models (Spiderman motif if possible) for full time use and switch to a rubber pad. I don't think I'll get away with using the everyday Sonicare for the khuks...not unless I buy my wife her own.;) T1MPANI, I was just messing around with what was at hand...you know, home alone for more than 2 hours and I'm bound to get into trouble.:D I was looking to do some detail work on a handle but I didn't want something as aggressive as my Dremel.

Now, what to do with the Juiceman and George Foreman grill?

BTW--The greenhouse story was pretty cool.
