Khuks made from 5160 or 6150?

I was just reading a book by Wayne Goddard, who states that if the leaf spring was from a truck or other heavy duty vehicle, is thicker than usual, and shows a temper line after the quench, then it is probably a chromium-vanadium steel, as opposed to chromium steel. Wayne also states that 5160 won't show an appreciable temper line. So maybe HI khuks are 6150? There's a bunch of other spring steels out there too.

Just bored, waiting for the mountains.

Could be 6150. As long as it works, I'm happy. (Not trying to be flip but I'm steel content intellectually challenged)

Ice :(

as i recall from my sword 101 days, 5160 will show a temper line if you etch it. it will not however come close to matching hamon like visuals that you would get from the good ol' high 10xx series.

if you etch it, you may lose it with cleaning and use.
