Anyone had any experience using a baldric with a khukuri - thought it might solve the tendency for the weight of the HI khuks to 'debag' one ;)

Sounds like it'd be a a cool rig, Beoram. Would certainly put the weight on the shoulder instead of the hip, handy with anything over 15" in length. I did make a baldric and scabbard for a sword, migration period european rig.

Keith -

Do you think your migration-period baldric design would work for a khukuri? I assume a baldric's a baldric (as they say? ;) ). Have you got some sort of rough design for the baldric you made - because I would like to make a 'khukuri baldric'.

cheers,
Ben

hi beoram i have a fast and easy solution to the baldric and it works great.
find an old laptop computor case-bag.
and remove the shoulder strap.you will find it is perfect for a baldric,as it is shaped for the shoulder and has padding in the right places, and the one i used off a dell computor has a keyring like snapback clip on each end.
all you do is remove the piece of leather in the top of the hi frog, used to hang up the khuk ??? .
then put an ordinary round keyring holder through the hole, one on each side, nice strong ones about 1nch size, then clip on your computor bag strap and there you have it,instant adjustable baldric.
and take it from me it works great,i used it extensivly on my trip to tasmania, very user friendly , you can just swing the khuk to the rear behind your back outa the way,or easy to remove and hang up on the nearest tree branch while you work, and at the end of the day hangs nicely on the bedpost.hope this helps ya regards kendo. :D

thanks for the suggestion Kendo - you seem to be a wealth of cheap, easy solution (I recall your tennis-racket grip khuk :) ).

Read somewhere to slip a 'D' ring thru the holster belt, than attach the two key rings onto the D Ring, and attach the strap. Saves wear and tear (stress on the leather). Still looking for the strap. Computer case strap, good idea. Been looking for an old long purse strap, suitcase strap. Even thought of trying to get to Tandy's Leather craft store, to see what I might pick up.

Those will both do the trick. The design I used for the Migration age baldric would involve removing the frog (save it back for belt carry later) and building basically a long belt with a frog-like area for the khuk. I have also built a baldric that attatched to an existing frog rig, using internally threaded screws to attatch the ends of the baldric to holes punched thru the belt loop part of the frog. This method is about like LCS and Kendo's suggestions, perhaps a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

I made a baldric/adjustable shoulder strap rig for a 21"Ganga Ram special. It worked great. There's a pic on page 2 of the Sarki Shop site.
God Bless.

If y'all can't find the particular strap you're looking for try going to a good shoe repair shop.
A good cobbler can fix up something real quick. The problem is finding a really good cobbler.:(

One that does repair for the military guys would be most likely to really know what you're talking about. It's been said way back when I was in the NG that there was a shop here that catered to the National Guard guys and cut them a nice discount, but I never had any work done there and can't even recall where it was supposed to be.
Besides T-Bone can make you one really reasonable anyway.:)

A couple split rings and an old purse strap made a nice little shoulder rig for my khuk! :D

Now I need to find a leather strap...the one I have now is nylon...:(

Bill,
I'm workin on getting the leather working tools. How'd you know I was eatin ham??

My old belt broke and my pants are falling off. I'm using a rope for a belt until I get the new one from you so please hurry. Wearing a rope around your waist can get embarrassing.

Guess what we had for dinner last night? I've got a few pounds left over -- figure it would make a nice lunch for you.

are belts that hard to come by in Nevada?!?! I'll pack up a buncha belts and head out west to strike it rich!;) It'll be a belt bonanza! How do suspenders selel out there? As scarce?

Dust Bunnies must have kicked all the Khuks out from underneath the bed and Uncle is wearing them around his waist for safe keeping. Get a stronger rope.:D

Bill, you're drinking Heinekin, smoking, gambling, and wearing a rope belt.... What's wrong with this picture? I know, I know; a man with priorities.

I wear my shirts and pants until they fall off. There's a few major holes in my shoes and Winter's coming. My wife gets embarressed. We visited a elderly couple in Havre, MT. and the old gentleman felt so bad for me he gave me some of his clothes....

Did I mention I forget to comb my hair? All day? Hey Man, once it's washed it's on its own. Who's in charge here, anyway?

My problem is I don't want just any belt I want a Terry Sisco belt that says Uncle Bill on the back of it. I'll stick with the rope until I can get what I want.

I know the story, Munk. My Dingo boots are 35 years old. My penny loafers 15. My jeans are ragged at the pocket tops (Yangdu says this is because of all the cash I pull out of them at the casinos) and my denim shirts are faded almost white and threadbare at the elbows. Once I escaped from the suit and tie of Corporate America I swore I'd dress like I wanted -- and I do. So, I look like a ragamuffin and also forget to comb my hair and shave. Who gives a damn what I look like anyway?
