Hello everybody!

Greetings from Russia.
I own a Gurkha Khukuri WWII replica knife and going to buy one as a present to a friend o'mine. I've heard that Gurkha soldiers mark/engrave their contract effective date on the blade of the khukuri. Does anybody know the anything about the subject:
1. Is it commonly used practice?
2. Do they use Nepali calendar dates?
3. Is the mark/inscription made in Nepali (e.g. 2066 Bhadra 14 ) or else?

Thank you for your time and help,

Alexander

Hi Alexander, I don't know the answer to your question, but if you go to the Himilayan Imports forum here on BF, there will be some very knowledgeable folks who may be able to help you....
