G'day there
I've been collecting khukuri for a while now,it started at one and then it seemed to big for this or too small for that so I got another "favourite" that I had to have.😍
Most of my collection if from KHHI with some others from Ex Ghurka Khukuri house and khukuri house Thamel with my most recent and currently untested blades from forum member Gurkhaknives that look great and will be getting tested in the next few weeks.
I use all my khukuri very heavily whenever I can clearing trees and scrub on a 4000 acre property on the NSW tablelands in Australia.
I have wasted money on some pretty flashy looking knives over the years that have been severely disappointing so I have decided to put up some of the better ones I have used to help people save some $ on the shiny rubbish that won't hold an edge and feels like a crowbar when you swing em.
When you are using khukuri knives for hours on end,how they look is of little comfort.
Blade quality,(holding an edge)handle comfort (ergonomics) and balance and weight ratio is often the difference between ease of use or sore hands and little work done.
This is intended to just show the khukuri I have personally used and abused and would recommend, it's by no means to be used as a blog to bash into different makers.
Feel free to add your favourite khukuri and why to the list but please keep the negatives away.
To trash talk these knives is disrespectful to the kami who make them and not necessary when you can instead promote the positives you have found out.
And apologies to the crew from Himalayan imports as I have not yet tested any of your fine looking blades yet.
Blades I currently own.

KHHI (khukuri House Handicraft Industries)
1-Parshuram Classic (highly recommended my best blade and Parshuram is my favourite Kami)
2-bhakta pure (highly recommended my no1 hiking/utility blade)
3-15" sirupate (made by Parshuram)
4-15" Defender (well made but too heavy for constant use)
5-OEFK operation enduring freedom Afghanistan (kydex sheath)
My least favourite design, poor ergonomics but great sheath

Gurkha knives (forum member)
6-Bone cutter 16" (absolute beast to be tested)
7-chiruwa angkhola (one of the nicest pieces I've seen)
I have only just had these knives turn up recently and from the moment I held them I knew these where high quality choppers)

Ex Gurkha khukuri house
8-Ranger model (nice light blade)

Khukuri house Thamel
9-mini jungle plus (kids knives)
(Good quality and great for the kids to learn on)

I hope to add some photos and comments over time and give a little bit of info and maybe give a rating to the knives.
It is a work in progress as I slowly go broke adding to my collection and adding to this post.

Thanks

Frige,

That is a nice kukri collection. I like that you have a lot of different models of varied shape and size. After using such a variety of blades it would be interesting to hear if you have zeroed in on a favorite model? Size? Weight?

I like your GK Bonecutter and the hired one from the left on the 1st pic.

Hi Shortwinger,
Thanks for the reply
For everyday use I probably prefer the lighter weight kuk's
say about 600 grams and a 10 inch blade, 4th from right Baktapure from KHHI is perfect,it's made all by hand using no machines and has a great sheath and good karda/chakmak
For heavy chopping I would probably go for the GK bonecutter it's an absolute beast of a blade
But I would say that when I'm choosing I look between the 550-750 weight range and a 10-11 inch blade
If I go outside those parameters I find them cumbersome to carry or to heavy to use all day.
I can post the size and weight of any of the blades you are curious about.
Good question,it got me thinking that's for sure
Thanks

Nice ones there R.C.S
Is that a HI kothimora? At the top and a condor heavy duty at the bottom.
I like the look of some of the Tora blades but have heard some bad stories of dealing with them.
Do you have any first hand experience?
I am pretty happy with KHHI and Gurkhaknives so am hesitant to swing money into the unknown

Thanks for replying
These knives are definitely addictive

After years of regular use I have settled in on three models, a 16.5", 696 g HI Bonecutter, the CS Gurkha Kukri and a Jungle model. Generally speaking, I prefer a 16-18" overall size and a weight between 675-725 grams. I definitely prefer a longer lighter slimmer blade that uses length for leverage rather than a thicker blade. For me, the huge thick spines take away it's cutting ability and use as a food prep and finer task tool.

Shortwinger, if you feel like buying another khukuri you should check out the Parshuram Classic from KHHI
Mr Parshuram personally makes each one and he is the only person I get to make my blades from them now.
He is super meticulous and the heat treat and finish is amazing.
The Parshuram Classic is his baby and I think he takes extra pride in delivering this blade.
13 inch blade
720 grams
18.5 inch overall
7mm spine at the thickest point that tapers down to the tip
I would run into a burning house to rescue this knife

Love your collection!

I have only one, 15" sirupati. I'm a small guy (5-10 @ 155 lbs) and find the lighter model very easy to use on wood.

Thanks Hwangjino,
The sirupate are nice fast blades my 15" blade feels like a short sword
They are great fun for clearing saplings and vines etc

Love all my KHHI Khukury and knives, have also Himalayan Imports, both companies are making top notch products, both are best value for money!

Seriousbladen01,
Thanks for the reply
KHHI have been very good to deal with and Saroj the owner really tries to look after you in a no fuss way.
I don't have any HI YET!!! but would love a tin chirra by Thamar
It's just the postage costs and the low Aussie exchange rate that's holding me back.
