Edited from today's London Times for the interest of Forumites - "KFOR Major Gives Stark Warning as Gurkhas Play On
"The grim world of mass graves and people being driven out of their homes by ethnic hatred seemed far away as hundreds of Albanian, Croatian and gypsy children skipped through this hillside Kosovo village behind their pied piper, Drum Major Durtbahadur Pun, yesterday. To the strains of Highland Laddie the men of the First Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles passed beneath the minaret of the Janevo Mosque and the steeple of the Croatian Catholic church through cobbled streets to the schoolyard. But there was an important message to be conveyed in this village in a Kosovo that is again sliding into inter-ethnic violence. The company comander addressed the villagers who had never before seen a spectacle like Gurkha soldiers performing a kukri dance with flashing curved knives. 'I have the determination and capability to enforce security in this area. Those who carry out attacks put their lives at risk. They risk being killed by my soldiers.' It seemed that the local KLA commander had understood the message."

Thanks, Berk. It is almost certain that Drum Major Pun is a Magar from the middle hills around Pokhara. I'll try to dig out my pix of the tourist type khukuri dance and post it.

Found it.
