Khukuri handle difference and Sgt Karka pics

Nice Pics!

Karka handle is definitely more contoured, and I like the Sword of Shiva. Handle dimensions remind me a bit of the Foxy's Folly, but the handle on my FF is much thicker - almost a fireplug.

Thanks for the comparison.

I got my sergeent karkee nife today. The scabbard is nicely done. Looks like the same sarki who did the scabbards for the "village villagers a few years ago. There weren't any nail covers for the nails where the karda and chakma go. The workmanship on the leather is very good nonetheless. Not a big fan of the rivets though. A couple are partially rusted.

The knife... nicely done, with convexie edge. The handle fits nicely in my hand and balances well. Didn't really play with it much though. All the horn handled stuff gets gooped for a couple of days when it gets here from reno. One thing I find kinda nice is that there are no markings. Some of the HI stuff is getting a little "busy" with all the marks and initials on em'.

In terms of blacksmithmanship, the good Sgt. can hold his own with the HI kamis. Sgt. Karka has made quite a few eye pleasing shaped khukuries in the recent few batches of UBBBs. The one I got has no habaki. Not that I didn't like the habaki it's just different not having one.

I should go chop some stuff.

Tohachi,

Yea, I had a FF. Real similar but as Yvsa would say the Sgt Karka is "more oval shaped" Also the fit and finish is more top notch.

Bruise, what do you mean by rivets on the sheath? Also where are the nails at. I was trying to find them on mine but I don't see them right off. The sheath on this one rides higher and more closely to the body than my others.

I have to say that as far as quality of manufacture, this is probably the best one I have owned. The handle is beautiful and the finish is awesome. It is even rounded ever so slighly right before the butt cap to prevent damage to your hand. The bolster (see the pics) is the smallest and most traditional I have.

I went on a hike last night and I worked some on this huge pine that went down over the trail and is super dry. It was slow going cause the wood was so tough, but it cut well. I'll probably cut it completely tonight and will try to take a pic but the edge holding is awesome.

I meant rivets (ribbits?) on the frog. I tend to confuse things with my loose use of the english langooge. I mean what I'm thinking but don't type it that way.

The nails are in the karda and chakma holes. they hold the loops of leather in place I think. On HI stuff they're usually covered with a patch of leather or other material. Sometimes they fall out, but they weren't inside the sheath either.

I also noticed that the leather smelled soapy and fresh. I have a couple other pieces that smell like a water buffalo that hasn't showered in a week. :)

Hi Hollowdweller,

I love ove your GK Bonecutter 16" !!! Is it a HI product?

No. From the now defunct GK khukuris. I wish HI would start making that model. The YCS is similar as far as balance, but heavier. The Ganga Ram is also similar, but not as front heavy.
