Im thinking about buying a khukuri from the khukuri house. I recently read about how their knives were...in a visual test "no good". The knife im looking to purchase is the Infantry No.1 (Warrior) model, and I was wondering, is a knife of that type really "up to par" with the other khukuris for the same price. I'd gladly buy a HI knife but I dont have enough money.

I like that knife because its a bit different compared to the other khukuris I've seen, would that be a good thing or a bad thing?

you can find the knife at www.khukurihouse.com

I have used several of them, no they are not up to the standards of the HI khukuris and you will see a difference readily in hard use (prying and such), and with edge retention chopping, however they are still servicable. More details can be seen in the reviews.

Where are you located? Before you decide to get a knife from Khukuri House, you should factor in shipping costs. HI has free shipping within the continental US.

It may be worth your while to save for a HI kukri because they are the best of the best. I have several but used one around my yard to trim some limbs and the thing is practically indestructible. Straightening the edge with a steel is all that is required to bring them back to sharpness. No regrets when you buy a HI and the warrantee is unbeatable. :)

Thanks for all your help, I'll save up for an HI khukuri. Just a few more questions, I was looking through the HI khukuris and saw 2 that really caught my eye, the chiruwa ang khola and the 18 inch ww2. I read that the chiruwa's handle was kinda small and therefore hurt your hand when you used it..... is this true?... if the handle is too small I'll get the ww2 model because the handle looks significantly larger.

Man I sure hope the chiruwas handle isnt too small because that warranty is unbelievable, plus the thought of having an unbreakable knife sounds friggin sweet :D

Handle size varies from khuk to khuk - no one model has a 'smaller' handle than another by design. Variation is just a fact when something is being carved entirely by hand.

What you may have heard about the chiruwa is shock transmission. Some people find the chiruwa handles send the shock straight to their hands and don't like them as much as the traditional handle. Other people never experience this problem at all.

Either way, you can't beat the warranty. I think only one person has ever had to collect on it in the last seven years. ;)

I would recommend that you hang out in the HI forum. Yangdu often puts up a 'Deal of the Day' post between 2:45 - 4:30 PM (Eastern Time); typically, it's around 3 PM. The deals are first come, first served, so if you see something that you like and can afford, send Yangdu an email right away and ask for the one that you're interested in. If she gets your email first, you win! It's a process the regulars on that forum call 'sharking'. :) Good luck.
