I watched an old (1985) kung fu flick today, about an evil sect of Tibetan martial artists trying to take over the famed Shaolin temple. (The movie was filmed in Kathmandu.) In one scene, the hero, the Tibetan crown prince, is attacked by an assassin with a khukuri.

Unfortunately for Khukuri fans, the assassin is beaten by the prince and his scarf. But at least we got to see the khukuri in action! (At the same time, we have to wonder why the prince went from Tibet to China via Nepal -- and walking, too!)

I was in the video store the other day and happened to notice the cover on "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle" showed Sheena with a khukuri tucked under a leather strap across her chest. Now correct me if I'm wrong but that doesn't look safe; I mean, if she bounced just once she'd get the most awful booboo... Don't worry though, I looked closer (at the khuk!) and it looks like the dull, tourist kind. So Sheena's er, bouncy bits are safe, but then what if she ever needs to fight a gorilla or lion or something with that cheap piece of junk? You can see why I'm so concerned, can't you?

heh
