I am looking for some info on a Khukuri I received as a gift. I got this a few years back from good friend when I was bestman at his wedding. His father-in-law lives in India and picked this up for me because my buddy told him I liked/collect knives.

It has a 9" blade with a dragon carved on it. Fit and finish is pretty poor. I'm thinking its just some crappy Khukuri you would pickup at a flea market or something.

Anyhow any info would be cool.

Thanks

It is a Tourist dhankute style khukuri made in india for decoration.
Some are better made some are worse, as far a fit and finish goes.
Yours has a bone handle, which makes it a slightly nicer specimen.
It probably has no heat treat, but it doesnt need one, as it wasnt meant to be used.
These are still in the marketplace today and can be had for as little as $2 and as high as $50.

My nephew brought me back a pair wth the same type of dragon carving on the blade when he came home from Afghanistan.

A lot of these are sold in Nepal & India as well as online knowadays. Most of them are originaly made in China from what I have seen.
