Last I recall we had set a date for the last weekend in August? Is this correct?

And we had not done a lot more. Let's get this thread going again and update.

Do we want a Konvention khukuri? What kind. Who wants one?

Are we going to rent a meeting room for a couple of days at the Atlantis?

We have the time so let's get on it and try to get it done right. I am planning to attend!!!!!!!!

Khukuri FAQ

Bill,
The one thing we did decide was the weekend of August 26/27. Arrive that friday, set up a rendezvous bar or restaurant or even someones hotel room, and wrap it up late sunday afternoon(?).

We will want a place to set up tables and chairs where we can display our toys. Hopefully the martial arts guys can put on a display of their talents. We would like a group Q&A session with you and maybe we can figure a way to display some of the photos from the trip. A BBQ somewhere would be great and just general carousing and BS.

Everyone takes care of their own lodging and security. Everyone hangs loose and has a good time and we all get to meet the faces behind the names on the Forum.

I still would like to have a real headcount and anymore suggestions so I know what kind of venues to look for.

I am here till the 23rd of April and will be in the UK till mid May.

The phone lines are open so call in now!!

SO THERE, Uncle Bill!

( That's telling him, John. )

:
We are gonna be there! Our vacation is already scheduled around those days.I will check out the hotels and such a little later towards the date.
I believe that John or someone posted the P# or address of the local chamber of commerce or the Atlantis Hotel.

The Atlantis is the one across from you isn't it Bro.?

What would a meeting room where we could all meet cost us?

I feel that a couple of meals together would be nice as it would give us the benefit of haveng that much more time together without us all running amock looking for different places to eat.

I said he was hardy, not smart.:-)

If you have problems getting a Reno room:

Check the Sparks, ( next door to Reno ) Fernley and Carson City ( a half hour drive ) motels. August is still tourist season, and some people have kids that don't start school til the second week of September. So look in the order given for rooms. Carson and Fernley are also usually cheaper rates.

Atlantis is right across the street from me. Next closest is the Peppermill.

There are a bunch of motels along the old highway before the interstate came thru that are okay and cheap. It's a five or six dollar cab ride from these to the Atlantis.

Keep on top of things, John. And, Rusty, you know your way around these parts, too.

Remember, I've been away and am not much good these days.

Thank you, Sandi. There are bargains to be had here in Reno if you can just find them.

We have all the standard food chains for those who might be on a tight food budget or who are addicted to the fast foods. And, there are many late night bargains at the casinos -- 11 pm to 7 am breakfast and special steak & eggs deals.

And, as I mentioned there are a lot of downtown motels on the old east - west highway that are very reasonable.

OK, I admit it....I'm cheap when it comes to having a roof over my head. I just got back from Texas and when we were down there the wife and I stayed for less than fifty bucks a night our kids stayed at a different motel for $120 per room per night. I don't sleep well at those prices!!
Is anyone interested in getting together to split the cost of a room? All I want are ZZZZ's and a shower and the less it cost the beter.

I'm in.

Now, who else is up for this from the SF Bay Area? One real cheap'n'easy possibility is the "gambler's special bus'n'room" plan. I'll be posting details on such a critter based on single and double occupancy, and I wouldn't mind a roomie.

Has anyone checked about group rates? I know that lots of places give special reduced rates for family reunions, conventions and such if they have a certian # of people registered for that event.

Zensho, where in NorCal are you? Close enough to the Bay Area for a shared bus ride?

Jim

Still here in CONUS till the 25th.
Sandi, I tried a couple places for group rates and they were quite a bit higher than the "special deals" a place like Reno always has.
I will encourage anyone to try their best, but it's up to the individual. No rates for the 'khukurati' but I'll bet everyone does just fine. Bill's suggestion of motels a little drive away has got to be the cheapest.
I am still hunting down the best place for a common room to show off the stuff, gather, drink, lie, trade, etc.
Still lookin' for suggestions on events and a rough idea of who is coming....
