For those of you from Red's thread that seem reluctant to acknowledge the capabilities of these blades, please see the following link, video #8. Though not named by the same terms, you can see both the kora (double kora, actually!) and sossunpattah/yataghan in use.

Hopefully it'll persuade you that these weapons, rich in tradition and fighting potential, are worth preserving through our patronage of quality replicas made by HI. ;)

All the while watching, I wanted S&W Model 36 and twenty feet of space.

Thank you.

Ruel, thanks for the link! The koras didn't look that big or heavy. I do want to buy them a bigger website or more bandwidth so the video could be better.

Kismet, you'll need a lot more than 20 feet.

Very interesting! I did notice regardless of the weapon, the moves were all similar techniques.

Thank you.

A lot more than twenty feet and maybe an M1911A1?

Sams, many Martial Arts take the attitude that armed and unarmed combat are much the same. An attack from your opponent's Right shoulder to their Left hip is pretty much the same whether they're chopping with their hand or swinging a sword. How you step out of the way is the same, the blocks are the same motion.

Red, Thanks for the comment, I thought perhaps using a Kora, a Khukuri, and a straight edge blade would involve a "different" style of fighting. The tiny bit that I know wu shu sword is completely different movements than the "tai chi" sword. The sword forms are not at all similar.

I thought using a straight blade would be vastly different than a "heavy" kora or khukuri. I enjoyed the video, thanks. :)

Sams,

I think the blade shape and weight completely alter the handling of weapons -- they move differently, so correspondingly you have to move differently to take advantage of the weapons' features.

So, any interest in the 3' sossunpattah?
