The Khukuri's that come from HI are made from truck leaf springs which is 5160 if I'm not mistaken, of course they are forged nepalese khukuri maker don't have much in the way of power equipment

Yeah, I found a great link on the making of those (http://www.khukurihouseonline.com/Content/Makings/Khukuri.php)   those are some crazy knife making skills, very impressive. I do however have access to power equipment :D , and I think one reason why they make it from this type of steel is because its the most available there, not sure. Anyhow, if anyone knows one particular steel that really worked for them, post about it here

5160 is probably (in my opinion) the best steel for this type of knife. The steel is one of the easiest to forge, very forgiving when it comes to temp and forging time, it is easy to get and also one of the main purposes of a khukuri is chopping and 5160 is a very tough steel for that use...Springy and less likely to break while in use as a chopping tool or a weapon. Remember this is only my opinion....I could be wrong. Good luck with your new project;)

Nice !! I ordered the balance and the chukuri.I had to justify my wife spending 200 $ on a pocketbook that will be out of style next year :p My khukuri will always be in style :D

Style ?As long as there is jungle out there I'll be using my kukri !!
