Just received my 20" Sirupati for Christmas; it's a beautiful blade with horn handle done by Sher. I ordered it as a blem (the horn had shrank according to Yangdu) in order to re-handle it with stacked leather. Upon initial inspection I couldn't find where the horn had shrank, finally found it after holding the blade up to the light. There is a slight gap between the bolster and the horn, so slight a piece of paper couldn't even fit. I hate to destroy a good handle so now I'll have to use it till the handle falls off before I redo it in stacked leather. The edge came rather rough compared to my other Khukuri, it seems like a coarse stone was ran across the edge. No worries a little time on the belt sander (another gift to replace my broken one) will bring it back in line. I haven't done any cutting/chopping with due to the holidays but plan to put it to good use trimming the various palm trees and brush around the house. Using a saw takes to long and machetes don't have enough weight behind them.

Just wanted to thanks Yangdu and Happy Holidays to all

Hope you're not in a hurry:) . My first HI khukuri was/is a 20" sirupati blem with a superglue-fixed horn handle I bought from Uncle Bill in 1999. I beat the heck out of it for several years. Sarge took it on his first tour in Iraq, and brought it back none the worse for wear (and a lot sharper:D ). It's still going strong, like the Energizer bunny. I wouldn't be surprised if your leather dries out or rots before you get to replace the original handle!. Enjoy, and happy holidays.

Congrats on your present. Khuks are fun. Get out and chop a bit before you get too worried over the edge. All of mine seem to sharpen up with a bit of hard use.

just be careful of the knots on those fir trees. they will sometimes be as stones (silicaceous lignum) and well, blade will break, bend, chip if you hit stones. yar.

wear eye protection too ;)

Thanks guys I think my wife would be a little upset if I started hacking on the Christmas tree. But i have no doubt the this khukuri will cut right through the aluminum pole:)

If you decide to hack up the christmas tree anyway be sure to post before and after pics... of the tree and your wife's face ;)

Always unplug the Christmas before chopping it up!

Does that 18" AK that arrived from Sarge 2 or 3 days before Christmas count?

Though it would do a mighty job of whacking apart our Christmas tree, I might be inclined to use a lighter khuk just to prolong the pleasure a bit.
