Khukuri Shoulder Rig

Ok. Looking to do a shoulder rig for some of my khukuri - not really looking at leather, more modern materials. Kydex sheath, etc. Specifically to wear while wearing a pack (for backpacking, etc.)

Also, I possibly (thinking about it) want to put a small, thin pocket under the other arm to carry a few small items - ferro-rod, tinder, sharpener, maybe build in a sheath for a karda like knife, etc.

Anyways, looking for some ideas. Pictures of shoulder rigs would be awesome - I'm looking for ideas like support webbing, connecting, angle of blade placement, construction, etc. Even pictures of leather rigs are welcome for ideas.

I've always suspected that attaching the khuk, somehow, to the straps of the pack might be a good idea for this, but I have yet to find pictures of such a mounting.

Reminds me of a dual shoulder rig I once saw for the Vorpal series. Dual handle down kydex sheaths that the blade was kinda pulled forward through the tension. Don't have a pic, but the mental pic I will keep forever.

I was thinking about strapping it to my pack - easy enough to do - but I was wanting to carry it on me even after dropping my pack. Thus the shoulder rig. Or should I just hang it off my belt?

hi mb
somthing i tried and it works too is a baldrig rig for a rapier or broad sword
holds the kuk at the right angle for an easy grab plus has extra loops for other knives may be a bit of over kill but it dose work somthing like the pic

comes in handy for the bigger kuks like the ganga ram etc

This rig, worn with light backpack and canteen, is from a History Channel program involving a trek across several hundred miles of African terrain.

RE VORPAL:
Tom Maringer in the 1980s did the 1st (to my best knowledge) kydex, upside down, front break sheaths. User gripped knife handle and punched out striking on the draw. Worked with a 10" blade under a suit coat.

It occurs to me that one simple "baldric" that might work, is to simply construct a loop of material like a Boy Scout sash, and attach it at the frog somehow, using the "overlap" closure to advantage. Make it short enough, and perhaps it might fit under the shoulder?

Looking into the above ideas....

Other question - belt attachment. Where / how is the best place to hang one off of your belt? If I did a belt rig, it wouldn't be one of my super-heavy ones, lol.

As to height, the natural waist seems pretty comfortable for me. If on the right side, hanging it straight down feels fine, but if on the left, I'd rather it was angled forward for a cross-draw. (In fact, I've just discovered that sash carry does this last part pretty well.)

Hey madbomber1998,
A real quick rig, to see if that's what is comfortable for you, is to hang the sheath it came in under your armpit on a set of the shoulder straps from a set of web gear. The clips that attach it to the web belt can be locked together to hold the sheath.

I prefer this rig to all others. It works well over heavy jackets, and under pack straps as well.
You can hang a small BOB under the the other armpit as well. I don't like when a baldric weighs on my neck, so using the web suspenders puts the weight on your shoulders:)

Hope this helps.
