Hello from Khukuri newbie

The front cover of a UK based magazine called 'Combat and Survival', February 2000 issue, shows a picture of a Gorkha soldier serving in the Royal Army's operation Langar (East Timor). An interesting photo for those who are interested in modern Gorkha soldier field dress. Unfortunately, the Khukuri image is partially covered with advertising text. But it is still interesting to see that the Khukuri handle and scabbard are covered with camo cloth, very suitable for modern warfare. The Gorkhas (from the 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles) completed thier part in the peace keeping missions, and left East Tomor in December last year.

I don't know if I can post the immage here due to copy right problem. But I can send the scanned image to you, Uncle Bill, if you want. the magazine's website is still under construction now.

Best wishes

You are most welcome Uncle.
Actually, forumite can view a lot of pictues of Gorkha in action in the Birtish Ministry of Defence web page at:
http://www.mod.uk/

Use the site search engine to find pictures of Gorkha soldier in Eas Timor.
General information about the Gurkha regiment and its history is also contained in the site, but I found only one Khukuri picture there. The most interesting picture for me is Gorkha in arctic training!!! Hard core Gorkha fans can come visit the regiment museum at the following address:

Peninsular Barracks
Romsey Road
Winchester
Hampshire
SO23 8TS
United Kingdom

Re copyrights, the question to ask yourself is, could what you're considering injure the financial interests of the copyright owner? Posting a picture of the cover of a magazine wouldn't be an injury -- it would be free advertising, especially if you also post the address. They might end up selling subscriptions or at least selling more copies of that issue to people who see the cover here -- so go ahead and post a scan.
