Well, I finally did it and learned a good lesson in the process.
First day out this summer with my favorite khukuri, my thin CAK.
Let me just say that I'm normally always very deliberate and careful with my khukuri. I though I was this time too....
I was getting my hells acre of a lawn (field grass) mowed and decided to trim back a few small sumacs that were overhanging in my way.
They get pretty plentiful if I don't manage them and try to take over the space I like keeping open.
While I was whacking them out front, I accidentally hit granddads old antique flail mower and put a couple small dings in the blade.
Apparently my khukuri, mi amigo.... didn't think that was nice.
While whacking a couple trees out back, I lost my grip and the khukuri jumped out of my hand.
Like a cat I jumped to make sure I didn't get stuck in the foot....
Then when I step back a little to look, I get a good poke in the back if my right calf and now have about a quarter inch slice there.
I think my friend we are even, I'm sorry I hurt you. I will be more careful in the future. Thank you for not cutting me worse. We both know you could have....

Be careful folks. Practice safety at all times. Above all treat your khukuri with kindness and respect!

Ouch, I gave my father my BAS villager, he could not believe how sharp it is. He'll be taking it abroad with him.

Hope you heal up quick, outcome could of been much worse. Thank god for that.

people just forget all the time, how very very fragile we are when against steel. luck keeps most of us out of the hospital but good safety practices can mean life or death!

The weirdest thing is there is not the slightest hole in my jeans.... but my sock and leg definitely have holes.
Still trying to figure that out.....

Ouchie Karda, Hoping it is starting to seal up by now and feeling better! As for the jeans. I had something similar happen. The tip went through the weave in the material, Cut the skin but stayed in the same spot on the jeans so they just show a blood spot with no damage whatsoever. That was a few years ago with a very sharp little Kamagata Usuba I was cutting veggies with. Amazing how such a sharp knife didn't cut the jeans at all but left a good sized scar in the side of my calf.

It's fine and wasn't any big deal. Just amigo teaching me.
He also demanded that I tend his wounds right after I put a bandage on my own.
Funny thing is.... I was a bit skeered to lift my pant leg to look. Good thing I'm not a big fan of scary sharp.......

Great to hear it wasn't more serious than a reminder from your work partner where your attention should be when you work with him. You had been having enough health problems without performing major surgery on yourself accidentally. LOL. I was actually glad to hear you were feeling up to being out endangering your leg to begin with :D Hopefully the wounds to your amigo weren't more than a nice polishing and maybe some oiling took care of?
As for the looking, I can certainly understand that. Amazing how much blood spreads out and makes even a moderate cut seem like you have poured buckets of your life sustaining fluid across the landscape OR maybe we just feel that way because of a brief moment of panic and it really isn't as much as we imagine it to be.

Pics? (Big SEG..)
My wife bought a big-name gourmet santuko for my birthday; spooky, scary sharp, and I pride myself on getting a keen edge. That sucker nipped me right out of the wrap just to establish dominance. I swear it seeks me out just to keep me... er.....sharp.

Karda, when you say thin CAK-thinner in the blade? My Bhakta is almost delicate for a khuk, and has a very high edge grind (which I love). Like that?

Mine is also made by Bhakkta. Perhaps you were one of the buyers for the group of them that Auntie sent to me for inspection? Did you get it from me or her?
She sent me 4 or 5 CAK's that were thinner overall than the normal CAK with thinner handles. She was concerned that they would not hold up to warranty.I gave them thorough testing and was confident they'd be OK. This one fit me so well that it begged to stay with me. Mostly the thinness is in the waist and handle. It is a chopping beast!

J's CAK came from me, I original bought it as a DOTD blem some time last year. It is 16.5", horn handle, and has the vibro-pen markings if that means anything to you.

Here is another quick reminder about blade safety... Never continue to work when you're tired or distracted.

I was chopping up a banana palm tree when I was both of the above. The blade turned slightly, bounced off the tree, came out of my hand, went spinning back at the inside of my right leg which was only in shorts at the time. This scar is the reminder. It happened May 12, 2012. 14 stitches to fix and the feeling has only recently returned to the area.

Be careful out there. PS the blade was an 18" YCS.
