Does anyone here remember the "Khyber Knife" that was advertized in the back of Soldier of Fortune and such back in the mid-late 80's? I remember lusting after one of these as a young teen. Just curious if they are still available. Did anyone ever buy one of these? Was it any good? As I remember, they were $49.99, which seemed like quite a bit of money for a knife at the time:D.

I don't know if it is the same thing but Atlanta Cutlery sells something similar. IIRC it is made by Windlass in India. There was a recent thread dealing with the quailty of Windlass items from Atlanta.

I bought one of those Kyber knives back in 1990 or so from Atlanta Cutlery. It is one of the ones with an 18 inch blade, and an overall of about 24 inches. It is fairly well made. The "T" cross section of the blade precludes its use for much IMO. It is a cool addition to a collection of ethnic blades though. I got mine and polished the blade up at work to make it really look good. Then to be funny I thought I would see if they were the great penetrators they were proclamed to be. I stabbed a small barrier wall of 1/2 plywood. It penetrated the wall deeply, (unfortunately) it also penetrated the drum of machine lubracant on the other side of the wall. All persons present had a real laugh at my attempts to stop the flow of liquid out of the barrel. Big dunce move, but I did learn that they really could do their prescribed task. Neat knife to collect. Cheap also.

Knifecenter.com has a black tactical looking one for $138.95 made by Ontario Cutlery.

The Black Wind Khyber knife atlanta cutlery sells is not worth the money . About 50 bucks tops would be more like it . I bought one and sent it back as I was very dissapointed in the quality . I bought a Pakistani khyber off of ebay for about fifteen bucks and it was a a better user than the Ontario knife .

Regards , Cameron .
