Have any of you got involved with a kickstart project ? Comments please.

A few times. First one was a project called Linkmount, which was the very first phone case attachment with a little finger ring stand and magnetic mount. Ended up be a great investment that lasted me through 3 phones before I couldn't use it any more due to a new wireless charging mount that it blocked.

My uncle also has a knack for finding boardgames that'll be super popular. He'll buy several from the kickstarter and then sell the extras on ebay for a bit more afterwards :P

I've backed a few projects. I always try to restrict myself to things that seem Very feasible. If the project claims too much in the way of industry leading, revolutionary, game changing, etc... it (at least in my opinion) adds quite a lot of risk. Remember this is an investment not a purchase from a store. It is entirely possible to back a project and not actually get your backer reward.

Always expect delays as well. I have backed 4 total projects that have been delivered. Not a single one was delivered on time. That said I have been satisfied with the projects I have backed.

I've done a couple. I treat it much more like a " I'd like that thing to exist" rather than a "sell me that thing" sort of proposition. A little forethought goes a long way, and so long as you are not buying someone's super industry breaking tech, you generally do fine. Heck, I got a phone off there, the jelly-phone, and I expect my atom phone to be shipping soon. nothing overly special, just a design that needed some funding to make happen. I've also done two coffee makers and the firefly firesteels.
