Last week son Henri (eight years old) came to me with a drawing.
He designed a knife how he likes new knives from Buck.
I don't like to keep back what he sketched.

please click the pic'

It is a good idea he had and I like to make the knife soon. What do you think?

Hi Herbert,

Your 8 year old has a promising future as a knife designer!!! That's very nice...Blade shape is close to a NightHawk....However, your son's knife has a very slight up sweep to the blade that is very appealing to the eye. Share some photo's of what you make for him.

I was surprised too when I saw Henri's drawing. I was elated from the design. And I know: he doesn't know the Nighthawk. And when he made the drawing we were a lot of miles away from home where the knives are.

The slight curve of the Back of the blade and the soft beginning of the edge behind the ricasso makes it good looking. Also the curve of the handle close to the pommel. I am curious to see the next drawings of Henri (if he makes).

Looks like Henri inherited his Dad's talents and artistry, Herbert! Nice design.....Does Nele have any thought on handle materials? She does donate her towel for many pictures after all ;)

looks like he could be in to design later on...
that is a good sketch!!!
you going to make it ? :D

... you going to make it ? :D

Yes, I'll try to make it. Next time I've a date with a blacksmith who makes knife blades. And I will ask him to show me how to make such a blade as I like to make the blade by myself. And the handle: I own pink wood and bog oak for the dark parts. And a friend helps me to make the outlines of the flower with brass tin. Guard and pommel will be made of brass too. I think it would become a nice knife. And I'll take some pic's to show you the making of.

Great sketch by your son Haebbie. The grind line is really cool. Would love to see pics of it's creation.
