I've been known to "push the envelope" at times. Today, I decided to clean up a titanium plate on my bench mill with a 5 inch Lovejoy indexible face mill.

SAFTEY TIP: DO NOT MACHINE TITANIUM AT SPEEDS WHERE YOU START TO GET SPARKS! THE SURROUNDING CHIPS WILL CATCH ON FIRE!!!!!

Don't ask how I know this!

Yea Tom and did you know ------

that if you use the sanding drum or grinding stone attachments on a dremel tool and get TI dust in your lap and sparks land on the dust you get fire too!!!

Like you said .............don't ask!

:o

Tom,
I won't ask.
Did I ever tell you the story of when I first started grinding Ti before variable speed? Baking pan under the grinder, filled with water, dust falling into it. Spark hit and set the Ti on fire and that caused the water to boil. Scared the hell out of me:) I just let it burn out. The next day I ordered a DC motor and controller.
See why I won't ask? :)

Kit:

The problem with variable speed is that sometimes you get tempted too see just how far you really can turn that little knob! (See original post. :p )

Moral of the story:....be sure to keep a few marshmellows handy. That way you won't waste any Ti dust:) :D :)

Tom, trivia question: how many sparks does it take to
make a fire with titanium dust? :D
